Lump in the throat sensation

Hi. I have had a long standing problem with a feeling that I have a lump in my throat - choking sensation, like when you are holding back crying. I have always assumed it was anxiety/stress and have been prescribed xanax for when it is really bad. This becomes constant when I am stressed out. I very seldom take xanax because of  the addiction proponent. I also have had a hiatal hernia for many years and take nexium. I have heard that acid reflux could also be a cause as well as my thyroid gland. Doctors have just told me it is anxiety. Anyone else had experience with this that can shed some light. What can be done besides taking an addictive med like xanax? Thanks for any advice!

I get that sometimes. Have you tried actually crying? I don't know if you are a male or female, but crying helps me. Watch something sad or sentimental and just try to cry, it helps to ease anxiety and that agitated and on-edge feeling.
