Medication

Does anyone know if it is okay to take ultram with vistaril? I just starting taking the vistaril for anxiety and I am feeling very wierd. I checked the interactions on a website and it says something about the central nervous system. Not sure what that means?

The concomitant use of Tramadol (Ultram) and Hydroxyzine (Vistaril) is contraindicated.

Tramadol possesses mild affinity for opioid receptor sites (Tramadol is 10% as potent as Morphine), and Hydroxyzine potentiates the effects of opiates. Thus when the two are combined, their effects as a central nervous system depressant are additive.

In short, you'd feel sedated and loopy if you combined the two.

Thanks for the info, I did not feel loopy, just very anxious and shaky.....maybe it's from changing from vicodin to ultram, my anxiety is thru the roof right now.
