Hi Emmas Mom!
We need some more information before we can take a stab at what your twitches may be related to. Are you on any meds? Recently gone off any? Just taken up bungee jumping? I don't mean to tease you, I realize you're scared, and I wish I could give you an answer to ease your mind. There is no way I can reassure you that these twitches are an anxiety issue, but many of the good folk on this forum DO suffer badly with muscle twitches and spasmsCoronary artery spasm Croup Eyelid twitch Facial tics Hand or foot spasms Urge incontinence Vascular spasm that ARE related to their anxiety. You don't say whether or not you have an anxiety/panic disorderAdjustment disorder Anorexia nervosa Asperger syndrome Autism Autoimmune disorders Bipolar disorder Bipolar disorder Bleeding disorders Borderline personality disorder Bulimia Chronic motor tic disorder.
Everybody, at some time or another, gets muscle twitches and some of them are probably as bad as yours. You say you get them really bad "sometimes." What does that mean? Every week? Every day? Every hour? Just at bedtime?
I don't think you are about to have a seizure, but you must understand that I am NOT a doctor, and ONLY a doctor can tell you with any certainty why you are having these twitches. So, my advice is to get in to see your doctor as soon as possible so you can stop driving yourself crazy!
Keep us posted, OK? There are probably a lot of folks who would be interested to know what you find out. You came here for help and may be able to help others with what you learn!
Peace

I get muscle twitches and also have a tremorsEssential tremor Familial tremor Hand tremor Tremor, at times. The other interesting thing is I have a daughter who has epilepsyEpilepsy Epilepsy - resources Treatment of epilepsy and cerebral palsyBell's palsy Cerebral palsy Cerebral palsy - resources Parkinson’s disease, hence she has tremors and twitches too. The difference is, my twitches are definitely anxiety or just regular old twitches that everyone gets at one time or another and hers are obviously from her disorders. If you were having a seizure, believe me when I say, I think you would know it. Having said that, it wouldn't hurt to have it checked out by your doctor. This is something that you should not beat yourself up about. Even on the outside chance that it is a seizure, which I highly doubt, it is extremely well treated and interestingly some of the medication they use to treat epilepsy can be the same meds for depression and anxiety disorder. I can't tell you how many times I've seen my daughters meds. mentioned on this forum.
Hello I use to have anxiety extremely bad and muscle twiches and tremors all over my body. So I'm gonna have to say yes anxiety can cause this. Hope this helps.
I get these twitches or spasms in my legs if I take gravol or anything like it. Heat helps. Massage helps - as in even massaging my own legs. Occasionally, I get them in my arms. Don't know if this is helpful or not but maybe what you are experiencing is a side effect of medication - if you are taking meds of any kind that is.
Thank you for all the responses. I have been diagnosed with GAD with Panic disorder. The medications I take are Norco and soma for chronic pain, xanax and cymbalta for GAD and panic attacks and ibuprofen. I am not sure if I should make an appt with my Dr as I sware they already think I am crazy. I have been battling with this for almost 10 years.
The muscle twitches are not painful, just annoying. And if they keep up I start to get worried that it is something else. I am sure it is just anxiety, but my brain thinks any tiny thing is a terrible disease or that I am dying. I am so tired of anxiety! I was doing so well with anxiety for years, but it started getting really bad when I decided to taper down on my pain medication because I was abusing it. I
That's quite a stew of medications your on, Toots! How long has it been since you've seen your doctor about all these issues? And just how badly were you abusing your pain meds? Deciding to wean or taper down on your own is almost always a mistake and I don't mean to sound harsh, but it is possibly one of the reasons you're feeling so lousy now.
Please make an appointment with a new doctor if you fear your old one thinks you're crazy. You need to have a good relationship with your doctor, and the trust and respect has to go both ways. You say you have been battling this for 10 years! That is 9 years too long! In my humble opinion, I don't think your old doctor should be trusted with your care any longer.
Find a new doc and start fresh. And be truthful about whatever abuse you feel you got into. And while you're there, discuss the very real possiblity of getting together with a good therapist. You've go some issues that are holding you in the same place. Time to move on. Nothing you've got can't be fixed, I'm almost 100% sure of that, so don't waste another day.
We can ALL relate to what you're going through and how difficult it is to make that first step, but ya just gotta do it.........for you, for your life. OK? We're here for you. Anytime you need us!
