Oh, no apology needed! I'm glad I asked, and I'm glad you clarified!
Yes, it sounds like that person may have had something else going on, either completely, or in addition to the DR.
Certainly, while it's harmless (at least generally speaking), it's terrible! I'd have to say that DR was one of the most uncomfortable anxiety related symptoms I've ever experienced!
Welcome to the site, btw....I've read several of your posts, they are wonderful. Very informative and supportive! Hope you stick around! :0)
I heard from someone that they completely lost control of themselves whilst depersonalising, and ended up severely injuring themselves and having to be rushed to hospital. However I looked up a few things on the internet (ah the mighty Google) and it seems that the consensus is that you are correct and that it's completely harmless.
Perhaps the person I was talking to was describing a different condition? Or perhaps she was confused or I misinterpreted the conversation or something, I don't know.
In any case, you are correct in saying that DP or DR are quite harmless. False alarm, sorry!
I've never heard of DR or DP being dangerous? Quit the opposite in my experience.
What makes you say that?
Yes, what you described can be symptoms of anxiety. Different bodies will interpret anxiety differently, if that makes sense. I personally have experienced both things you described when I get very anxious/panicky, though they could possibly be symptoms of other things instead.
Have you told a medical professional about the feeling that you're not really 'here'? It could be depersonalisation or derealisation, both of which, if they get really really bad, can be quite dangerous. Nothing to worry a whole lot about, they're usually quite harmless, but I suggest you talk to someone nonetheless. If you have a therapist of some sort I suggest you talk about what you are experiencing with him/her. Or if you want you could talk to your GP.
Good luck with everything.
Thank you both and I'm asking because I have bad anxiety and sometimes it feels like I'm moving when I'm not or it feels like I'm not really here
Different people experience different things. You won't necessarily feel what the person above feels -- I don't -- so it's going to be individual to you. The only common thread is irrational fear that something terrible is going to happen. I agree with the above on this: why do you ask?
Anxiety is not fun your heart will feel like it's going to jump out of chest, you will get hot flashes and last usually about 5 to 10 minutes aleast thats what it does to me.why do you ask?
