NOT CONVINCED

by jenmar, May 01, 2009 08:06AM
A few weeks ago, I was in ER with a severe anxiety attack (my first one).  My D-Dimer level was elevated and I have had leg pain.  Because I recently had a freind that died when a blood clot hit his heart, I think my leg pain drove me to my anxiety attack.

Anyways....They did an ultasound which was negative...but I am still having severe anxiety because my legs are still hurting and my mind keeps thinking "what if they missed a clot"?

Help please!!!!  How can I ease my mind?

Health anxiety can be really hard to overcome sometimes.  Especially when you were affected by what happened to your friend.  You did the right thing by going to get checked out and they checked for clots and did not find any, which is a GOOD result.  The 'what if?' cycle of thinking is what makes dealing with anxiety so hard in my opinion.  Having your first anxiety attack is both confusing and scary; have you ever thought of trying some talk therapy?

Also, remember, that leg pain can be caused by a million other reasons that are not life threatening.  In my opinion, we always assume the worst when we are dealing with this when in fact it is usually not the case...keep us posted!

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your attack, it is really the worse feeling in the world and I'm not sure what the percentage is but it is very high for people going to the emergency room with panic attacks.
Just wanted to let you know that when I get my anxiety, panic, my legs get very heavy, lethargic and ache terribly. I think this is part of the package, these attacks take a lot out of your body, so if you have been tested I would just try to deal with your panic and don't worry about your legs.
