Need Advice

Hello. Just found this forum and wanted to ask a couple questions. I had severe anxiety 10 years ago and took Xanax as needed. Have not taken meds until recently. Been drinking the last 10 years and trying to stop. My anxiety and depression are back along with stress. I took Prozac, generic, 20mg for just over 2 weeks. It did make me feel calmer and relaxed but had a hard time concentrating. My head felt numb. I then tried Zoloft but forgot why i did not like it. And recently was prescribed Paxil. 20mg. I am nervous to take this because of reading all the bad comments about it.

Which of these three meds would be the safest for me to take? I was told i did not give Prozac enough time. Any advice will be appreciated. My brother takes Prozac. Thanks.

You did not take Prozac for enough time.  If it helped, you'll probably get used to the downside, and it's the easiest ssri to quit, causes the least weight gain generally.  None of them are problem free.  This is just me, but I'd save Paxil for last.  But more important than any of this is to get into therapy -- none of these meds will cure you.

Everyone reacts differently to each drug, so what will be someones life saver will be another total nightmare.  Please don't read too much into what other people have wrote about the side effects.  Yes i know that they sound very scary and the last thing you want is something bad happening to youself but you have to realise that there is nothing to say that this will happen to you.  My advice would be try the drugs for a couple of weeks or a month at least and if the side effects out weigh the positive then stop it.  You say the Prozac was helping but made you feel numb, maybe if you had continued it would of faded as this is just ur bodies way of getting use to this drug being in ur system, once u got use to it i'm sure this feeling would of worn off leaving u with nothing but the positive.  maybe you should give Prozac another shot!

All the best Julie

Hello,
I talked to my Psych. this morning and we agreed to try the Prozac again. I still had some left over from last time so took one just a little bit ago. I will try this for 4-6 weeks and see how it goes. Plus he said i can still take my benadryl at night to help me sleep. Thanks.
