I think insomnia is caused by the anxiety. I've been taking paxil for a long time. my dosage varies on how I am feeling. Most of the time I am on the lowest dose. If anxiety acts up, I increase my dosage. So, most of the time I am on the lowest dose.
The meds do play some of a role in sleep disturbance but I someone is waking in a panic, it most definitely is anxiety.
I really believe the best remedy for anxiety is a good workout routine and stress management. The meds are good for assisting in recovery.
Anxiety is a tricky thing and requires some work on our part. This is easier said than done but accepting anxiety for what iit is, our body's reaction to stress, is probably best. I do my best to ignore scary thoughts and some of the symptoms.
You can do it!
Zoloft can cause problems with sleep. Ativan is probably not good long term. Klonopin is still a Benzo but really wards off the anxiety and worry for me. I take celexa which is the only ssri I have found that doesn't cause insomnia for me.
