In todays' technology what is the term used to describe a nervous breakdown.? Am i wrong in my definition of a nervous breakdown when describing someone who has been OVERLOADED with hundred's of MajorMajor tears Major-gesic decisions , alone. Is already and has always been TOO HIGH STRUNG and bothered with nerves too the point of " can't set still has never watched t.v.". Always something to do and should have already been done! Total PERFECTIONIST and expects the same from the world! This is has always been a normalNormal saline flush day , well with TON'S of many more descriptions that would make one suffer a nervous breakdown. But isn't a person who has a HUGE HISTORY with nerves including in their mid 30's a BellBell's palsy's PalsyBell's palsy Cerebral palsy Cerebral palsy - resources Parkinson’s disease and in late 50's a TIAAlzheimer’s disease Blood differential Bronchitis and normal condition in tertiary bronchus Chem-20 Chem-7 Dementia Essential hypertension Essential tremor Group b streptococcal septicemia of the newborn Gynecomastia Incontinentia pigmenti on the leg more prone to a nervous breakdown issue AFTER carrying for an extended period Excessive (even more that usual) Stress, Excessive Anxiety, Pooor Sleeping (and trust me that alone my mother and I both get stupid on) Over exersion. Meanwhile continueing to run NORMALNormal saline flush 90mph nervous pace as "ALWAY'S"!! Keeping up appearance's that everything is fine just as she was taught to do back in early adulthood with an alcholic husband. Point being in giving this personna that sh'e fine she drove herself mentally and physically to the point of total mental and physical exhaustion to the point of when i went with her to the Dr. FOR her nerve's he MISDIAGNOSED her with DEPRESSION and this has been a 2 year battle since in trying to get my mother's BRAIN BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone relate to any of this? To my astonishment in the forum alphabet under "N" there are NO NERVOUS BREAKDOWN information. I sure do need some advice and would appreciate it more than i can even express!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU Cindyb
No such thing as a nervous breakdown. Just a term used in movies and books. It can always get worse, and it can always get better. There's depression, there's anxiety, there are a lot of conditions, but no real medical term "nervous breakdown." Now, years ago they had terms like this, especially if you wanted to commit an independent woman to a mental asylum, but no, no nervous breakdown. Which isn't to say the suffering isn't real, just that it doesn't go by that name. And remember, depression can cause anxiety, and it can be the reason for low self esteem that might push a person to try to be so perfect.
Agree with Paxiled and nursegirl. "Nervous breakdown," the fodder of movies and dime store novels.
I got a bit lost as to whom we were reading about........you or your mother, but in either case, I would strongly urge a psychiatric evaluation. Nobody is going to lock anyone up in a loony bin or tie on a straight jacket, but they will POSSIBLY recommend some medication that can help in combination with some much needed talk therapy.
There is help and hope out there. Get it!
