Nervousness, increased heart beat and voice choking while speaking

Hello,

I need an urgent help. I'm a professional (age-34yrs) and my job demands lot of interactions with people. My problem is that i feel lot of hesitation in talking to people. Many times, when i talk to strager, my heart beat goes racing, and i feel choked and loss of breath. In fact, I'm compelled to stop and look for more breath to speak. I feel shaky and jittery. I hands and legs become weak and voice starts to fail me. I feel so helpless and dead. I dont know what to do. kindly someone help me. is there any medicine to control it or some other things that i can use to help myself. I'm very unhappy. Kindly help.

Many people have social anxiety in this community, especially when they are in front of large groups.  Have you always had problems with this, or have you just recently been experiencing this?  I know many people that go to various groups that can help with public speaking or are there any social anxiety groups that you can attend in your area?  For me, anxiety is so much easier to deal with once I learned more about it.  It can be very confusing and quite scary at first, but as with all things, more we learn about something the less daunting it seems....keep us posted!

There are anxiety medications that can help you, but therapy may benefit you as well.  Therapy can be a lengthy process and medication may be needed in the meantime.  It sounds like you have some social anxiety going on which is very common. Anxiety can cause us to not breathe as deeply as needed, so pay close attention to your breathing and don't hesitate to take a deep breath even while talking.  I would talk to a psychiatrist so the two of you can determine the best course of treatment for you, and he can also suggest the best type of therapist for you. There is help for this and you can either beat it or control it via medication.  Whatever works is what you need to go with.  Take care and good luck.
