Night time Anxiety...

Night time Anxiety...

My anxiety really seems to heighten at night - especially if I wake up in the middle of the night. Does anyone else experience that? It's almost like I wake up, start getting anxious, then the darkness and the thought that everyone's sleeping... "who will help me???".... It's worse, I think, in the winter when it's snowy and dark. But, it happened again last night - I woke up out of a dream and felt like my heart and insides were just pounding and racing. I hate it!! I try not to wake my husband up because I KNOW it will pass eventually and the only thing he could really do is try to talk me down. I never know what to do to help myself calm back down... sometimes I'm too afraid to even get out of the bed, other times I'll force myself to get up and either go to the bathroom or go downstairs and just walk around the living room or whatever. It makes the next day hard though cuz I wake up and I'm tired, which usually increases the already existing anxiety. And of course because I'm not fully relaxed when I'm sleeping the knots in my back and neck start spasming..... horrible cycle of distress :-(

You are NOT alone! Mine is always worse at night especially when I wake up with a panic attack for no apparent reason. I'm not sure why this is, but I think I'm worse at night because I get a chance to think about all of my stresses during the day.
