cj's response was excellent, but I wanted to give you the description of Niravam that Ryan, who is sort of our resident pharmacist, gave to someone on June 10th. You can find that post and read it for yourself, but here are his exact words regarding Niravam:
"NIRAVAM IS IDENTICAL TO IMMEDIATE-RELEASE XANAX. THE ONLY ADDITIONAL BENEFIT OF NIRAVAM IS THAT IT IS AN ORALLY-DISINTEGRATING WAFER. THE ONSET OF ACTION IS ABOUT 5 MINUTES FASTER WITH NIRAVAM. OTHERWISE THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NIRAVAM AND XANAX."
I would like to add that Xanax or Niravam are for short term use only, i.e. four months or less. Or better yet, on a prn (as needed) basis. After four months of continuous use, Xanax and Niravam will lose their efficacy. It is a very difficult drug to withdraw from and I would urge you to discuss an alternative with your doctor. For long term use, there are many choices out there, most of which are far safer than Xanax.

I believe it is a term for alprazolam, i.e. Xanax. It is a short acting benzo for the treatment of panic. As long as it is prescribed to you and you follow your doctor's orders, it is a good tool to use combined with talk therapy, in my opinion.
