Normal to bordeline systolic with high diastolic blood pressure + Anxiety related?

Hi everyone,
I need some advise. Last, after I wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, I notice that I had all the time a systolic pressure of 130-140 and a high diastolic pressure of 95 to 100... So a blood pressure of an average of 135/105... I also notice tha my pulse rate was all the time fast, 130-160 when I was standing and around 90-100 when I was sit, BUT sometimes it was down to 70 in the evening...

The day after I wear the blood pressure monitor, I had to bring it back to the hospital and I had again that very fast pulse rate of 130-160, wasn't able to take my shower, I just get dress and had to go by car at the hospital with my mom.

In the car, I had a panic attack, as usual since being in a car is what trigger the biggest panic attack on me, and I had already the tachycardia before I leave the house so I was already in the panic mood ... When the panic start,  I had the blood pressure monitor on me and the machine start and took my blood pressure and to my big surprise I had a blood pressure of 130/115 !!!

I don't care about the systolic number but the diastolic number was really freaking, also, my pulse rate raise up to 241 BPM!!! Never reach that peak before.. I felt so bad that I ask my mom to stop the car and had to open the door of the car, put my head between my knees and try to take some deep breath, even if I wasn't really able to breath... I also had the stronger chest pain I had in my life, my headache increase, I took 5 minutes and wait until my pulse rate decrease a little bit, even if I was not able to tale it with my fingers on my wrist, it was too fast... and I said to my mom to drive the faster she can to the hospital...

When I enter there, I go see the Nurse at the Cardiologist departement and when she remove the blood pressure monitor, I told her that I had a very fast pulse rate and that I wasn't feeling very well... She did a ECG and told me to go directly to the emergency with it...

At the emergency, the put me on a stretcher, they plug the machine for the vital signs and they do a blood work for the cardiac markers for heart damages or failure and they do some X-ray of my lungs...

Strangely, at the emergency, 5 minutes later my blood pressure was down to the normal range for both numbers, around 125/80... and my pulse rate was not stable but in the 70-80 range.

The Doc come to see me 2 hours later with the results and say the my ECG was normal but was showing superventricular tachycardia and he explain to me that it was not dangerous, just annoying... He say that for my high diastolic pressure, they didn't catch it cause when I arrived at the emergency my blood pressure was already lower (probably because the panic attack was over...)... He RX a holter monitor and say they will catch the tachycardia and the skip heart beat that I have regulary daily... the holter will be only done in 2 1/2 weeks...

Anyway, since that happen 5 days ago, I always have a very fast pulse rate, all the time 130 while i'm standing and 100 when i'm sit... sometimes it goes lower in the evening in the 70-80 range... Also,  I always have a high blood pressure but the systolic number is all the time in the normal range, even if I do a panic attack so my average blood pressure since 5 days is around 135/95... in a panic attack or 5 minutes after it's around 140/110...

Is it normal or not? For the chest pain who continue to last and to be strong, is it normal also? I guess that if I had something wrong from my bad experience in the car, they will see it at the emergency like on the X-ray, the blood tests and the ECG no???

I have an appointment in 2 days and sadly I have to go there by car and it's 20 minutes away from my home... I already feel overstress and the more I think about it and the worse is my blood pressure... I try to change my minds, I try to relax, take a long bath, relaxation, meditating, deep breathing... nothing decrease the tachycardia and the high blood pressure... I even try again the Inderal at 20 mg and it did nothing for my blood pressure, I just had a worse fatigue than usual and was feeling quite anxious... I also try the Acebutolot at 100 mg and had the same reaction...

So what to do with that? I try to not dramatize or amplify the bad experience I had in the car last week and I also try to change my negatives thoughs into positive thougs but it's not seem to work...

Is it dangerous to have a high diastolic pressure like I had in the car if it's only last 15 minutes?

So any tips will be welcome!!!

For sure if you feel you need another opinion make sure you get one. Seek out whatever medical help that you need first and foremost. Your diastolic is high, but the good thing is that it does not stay high. That is when you need to intervene with medication etc. With my anxiety I have gotten my BP up quite high from stressing out. Now those 15 minutes in the car are not dangerous. After I had my third child I was in the hospital for several weeks with uncontrolled blood pressure (result of pre-e) My diastolic sat in the low 100's all the time with medication until they added a few more meds and got it down to 90. It takes quite awhile for your diastolic to do damage and it would have to be a constant high number. I also had issues with tachycardia while pregnant and my resting pulse was 120-130. It felt awful but I learned a few things on how to bring it down when it got too high. I carried around a large thermos with ice water and a cloth in it. When I started to feel like my pulse was getting way out of control I would take out the cloth and put it right on my face. It creates a reaction that kind of re"sets" your heart beat and gets it into a more regular rhythm. Have the doctors tested your thyroid? It can cause tachycardia as well as anxiety. To try and decrease the anxiety you have about the appt etc really try and focus on meditation and breathing exercises. I find that they can be hard to get use to but once you do they are very helpful.
Regular exercise, low sodium diet etc can help with your blood pressure as well. Sometimes it takes awhile to see results but I was able to come off 4 medications after a year with making lifestyle changes.

I'm having high diastolic and have had an issue with tachycardia that was stopped by an ablation. My first worry for you is are you retaining fluid? Congestive heart failure starts that way. Sounds like your plate is full as one comment said. You surely need a cardiologist that digs deep to find answers. Stroke and tachycardia are 'friends' if the tachycardia is from only the first chamber of the heart going nuts while the rest of the heartheart doesn't function and blood pools in it. Don't stop looking for the right diagnosis! None of it is good for you. Good bless you.

POTS is a form of dysautonomia.  Often misfiagnosed as anxiety.  The anxiety drugs often make it worse.  My son has it and has similar symptoms.  Postural orthostatic tachycardic syndrome

Have you had a stress test? You need to be in the cath lab I think. Does it get worse with exertion? walking fast, lifting or carrying things and walking?  I'm no doctor, but I have had multiple cath lab stents, and your symptoms sound like mine did

Hi, I am new to this forum. I have been experiencing high diastolic reading from 85-90's and my systolic from 115-120. I feel like these symptoms are getting worse every day. I have palpitations and my heart rate gets pretty high just brushing my teeth and cooking. I have episodes where I will feel my heart flutter and go very fast and as this is happening, I get very lightheaded and feel like passing out. I also get very bad chest pains with numbness radiating to my left arm, left shoulder, and jaw. I get extremely nauseous when this happens. It is very scary and I have gone to the ER three times already and they have not found the cause of this. This is very frustrating!! Can it be I am experiencing SVT's? I just experienced an episode a couple of hours ago, ugh!!

If you are having a pulse rate of 200+ bpm, you are probably experiencing a kind of tachycardia which is identified by the use of ECG. If you you were still experiencing tachycardia(fast heart rate) when you arrive in the hospital, they will definitely identify your condition if the ECG recorded it in the time you are still experiencing tachycardia. You should definitely consult your doctor about the matter. I suggest you consult an electrophysiologist (cardiologists who specialize in the electrical conduction of the heart). Last december I was diagnosed of having Supraventricular Tachycardia which is kinda serious case. Each time I have an episode of SVT, my Heart rate reaches 230+ and I feel like Im fainting. The doctor will immediately inject Verapamil(calcium channel inhibitor) which slows down the heart rate. It is very frustrating but thank God and the doctors, I am cured now. and my heart is back to its normal rhythm. :) I underwent Cardiac Radiofrequency Catheter ablation. You'll never regret it. It's the only way. :) Good luck and God bless :)

Hi ;-)
I already see a Therapist each week... it's the third Therapist I have since 1 year... i'm dealing with severe panic disorder + agoraphobia + social phobia + general anxiety + cardiophobia (a form of OCD)... i'm med sensitive, mean that I can't take any kind of antidepressant or anything else, even a Tylenol make me feel bad... I tried too much meds in the last 3 years and some of them was very dangerous and almost kill me (Parnate who is an MAOI antidepressant, some of the Tricyclics was a lot hard for my heart also...)...

I'm already on an anti-anxiety med call Klonopin (Rivotril-Clonazepam) and I take 8 mg a day and just add 2 mg so for a total of 10 mg a day and it's doing nothing for my anxiety... I take those meds since 5 years and i'm addicted to it... Once in a while my PDoc change the benzodiazepine I take, so he switch to the Xanax, who is not working, sometimes he add some Valium who don'T help as well or he add some Ativan who is not working also... I guess my gaba-a receptors are saturated and don'T react to those meds anymore...

Well, I guess I will probably soon follow a meditation course or yoga... even if I try it in the past and it never do a thing to help me... Deep breathing is always good, but can't stop the tachycardia and certainly don't decrease my blood pressure...

Seriously, I need another Cardiologist who will take me more seriously and I need also to see an endocrinologist cause a lot of my symptoms seem linked to my adrenal glands...

Anyway, thanks for your answer ;-) that's nice !!! ;-)

Take care ;-)

i think its important to speak with a therapist.    It sounds like you have a full plate.    Keep with meditiation and deep breathing.....drink calming teas  ie chammomile.        You may want to get a prescription for anti anxiety.......sometimes, just having them with you is enough to keep you calm.     In time, your anxiety and associated problems are likely to decrease.
