Not sure what to do?

by chthompson, Aug 12, 2009 08:01AM
I have suffered from anxiety on and off for 14 years. On june 16 2009 I was given a steroid shot for a very bad case of poison ivy.Within 2 days i became very irritable, anxious, and nauseous.I lost 10 pounds within 1 week because i couldnt eat. After about 6 weeks I started to feel alot better. Then i went to get my paxil refilled and they changed the generic to a different company.Within 2 days i was feeling terrible. The dr. told me that sometimes this happens and to ask them to get me the other brand again.I have been on the original brand again for 4 days and am still having the heart flutters, chest tightness, and dissyness.Im only on 5 mg daily but if i up it to 10 mg i feel worse.I have taken paxil for 9 years on and off and have never had trouble. On july 4th i was in the ER,had an ekg and blood work and nothing was wrong.Another thing is that my blood pressure usually runs 107/70 and now it has been running 97/63.dr says she is not worried about it.Dont know what to do can anyone give me there thoughts?

hiya...sorry to hear you are having a tough time at the mo.... but i just wanted to say regarding the blood pressure that it fluctuates depending of the time of day, what you are doing, feeling, if you have ate etc, so i wouldn't worry too much regarding the slight drop... your doctor is right regarding this.

The fact you have has tests done and are normal is great, but could it be that after the steroid shot your body just hasn't fully recovered from? Maybe the original paxil just needs a bit more time to circulate in your system and flush out the other **** and then you will start to feel better.... did you put back on the weight you lost?  Are you eating healthly? lots of fruit, veg, red meat, fish etc?  maybe your system is run down and needs a vitamin boost to get you back up and running.

If i'm talking a load of crud please say... but i do hope i have been of some help...xxx

Thank you so much for commenting on my statice. As for the steroid shot im not sure.I dont know how long it can affect someone. As for my weight I have not put it back on but am maintaining where im at which is a better weight for me anyway.I try to eat healthy, but am sure that i could do better.I seem to do better in the afternoon than in the morning.I have been waking up somewhat anxious or restless and irritable. Thanks again for replying,my family doesnt understand what im going through.

I think you have to go through something before you understand it. Families never really understand the full extent of what we suffer. I don't think they ever will. But it is nice to have some support. I hope they are at least supportive. Because we all need just to talk at times. Hence this forum is great. We can come on here and clear our systems in words and get feedback at the same time. As for medication. At times it can stop working like it once used to. Been on it over the years maybe you have just got so used to it. Ever think of trying something else? Just to see if it makes a change in how you are feeling. Nothing ventured nothing gained. If the weight was a big problem I am sure they would have stuck you on something that makes people gain weight. Plenty of SSRIs out there that do that.
