Numerous symptoms, Numerous Tests JUST ANXIETY ?

by Lightwise, Dec 06, 2006 12:00AM

I am 37, male 187 lbs. My journey started about 3 months ago when I was 4 days into a liquid fast. I had just been fired from my job after 11 years (but was not too upset about it). I actually was looking forward to a change. While at a friends house (4th day of fast) I began talking about a subject which got me worked up. I subsequently had an episode which is hard to describe in words other than it felt like a mini nervous breakdown. My blood pressure shot up (I'm sure) and I began thinking a 100 m.p.h. To say the least it was very traumatic. Since that day I have had fatigue, anxiety (which has subsided tremendously) and a foggy head. Two days after this episode I went to the ER, they prescribed BP medication and gave me one Ativan while still there. I went home and began taking the meds. Two months into all of this I began feeling lightheaded while walking (drowsy feeling), pins and needles, hearing loss in one ear and ringing in both, frequent urination, cold toes and fingers, foggy head and memory problems, eye pain and more. I began worrying about MS. I did a brain MRI recently which was totally normal, I am now looking into LYME as a possibility. Every doctor I've seen and my therapist say it's all anxiety. Is it possible to have this many physical symptoms from anxiety ? Especially the balance problems 24/7 ? All anxiety ????

Hey, anxiety can do a lot of weird stuff to your body. But also dehydration can also cause a lot of problems, if you were on a liquid fast for 4 days it wouldn't be a surprise that you would have a break down of some sorts, even more so if you did any kind of physical activity.  Back to the anxiety, I had all sorts of problems with anxiety, I had symptoms ranging from cardiac problems, fatigue, brain fog all sorts of problems.  So I did what any good hypocondriac would do, I went to every kind of specialist you could imagine, Gastroenterologist, Cardiologist, Endocrinologist, blah blah blah.  All my tests came back normal.  Took me over a year to find out that 95% of my problems were just anxiety and going to a Psyciatrist was what I needed to do all along.  Hope my story helps you out some and might give you some peace of mind that more than likely you have anxiety rather than a physical problem!

But you should still have it looked at by a family doctor, just to make sure that it isn't physical.
