OCD Medications

by nibbles and bits, Dec 28, 2006 12:00AM
I have been taking zoloft and anafranil for the past 6 years due to OCD. They have eliminated my symptoms completely while taking them. However, if I go off them for two weeks the symptoms come right back. I am wondering first of all if there are any dangerous effects if you take these medications sporadically and not every day? I can't seem to ever loose weight and I almost never go the bathroom. I also have sexual side affects as well. Do you have any advice?

I've been on Anafranil for several months and Prozac for several years.  They weren't kidding when they said Anafranil had strong side effects.  I suffer dry mouth, constipation, ringing in the ears, etc.  Most significantly is the weight loss.  I've dropped 30 lbs since I began taking Anafranil.  My OCD symptoms are gone though (unless I'm under great stress, then they come back temporarily).  I am also curious about long term effects, because as long as it's helping my OCD I'd like to stay on the meds.

Wondering if taking anafranil and zoloft daily is necessary. I don't always take my medicine. It seems I take it about 4 times per week instead of everyday. My symptoms are almost completely gone. Does anyone know if this is damaging to not take these meds daily. As far as OCD goes, I am absolutely fine. But the side effects are brutal. I am drousy all the time, constipated, get headaches, and my eyes get weird looking. I can't loose weight for the life of me. Anyway, I have been on these meds for a very long time and am concerned for my long term health. If anyone knows anything that would be great.
