Obsession About Medical Problems

My latest obsession is my periods, Ive been having issues the past few months and a big scare the other night, haven't gone to a doctor yet and all I do is worry about it CONSTANTLY. When it's not my periods, it's something else medical. I'm pretty much homebound, haven't gone to a doctor in years, not on meds. I feel selfish cause I have 5 kids, and all I do is obsess over me. I'm so sick of worrying and thinking worse case scenerio constantly. Anybody else do this????? Hypochondriac here but that can't go to a doctor due to anxiety/panic! Makes loads of sense!

What your going through is not that uncommon. Many people have health anxiety. You really should try to make it to the Dr though. Is there someone that can go with you? I hate going to the Dr and almost always have my daughter go with me. It really helps.  Remar

Hi Katie! Obcessing about your health is very common with anxiety sufferers. We become fixated on something serious being wrong and our senses are heightened to notice every little twitch or ache in our bodies, making us believe this even more. The problem is that this constant worry is feeding your anxiety which is hurting you emotionally!  I know it can be scary to go to the doctor, but you truly need to go.  You need a good check-up, and then address your anxiety.  There are medications to help with all this along with therapy, you don't need to suffer like you are.  Try to rationalize that with all your worry, you've been fine and allow this reassure you. You are young, and still have a lot of living to do, don't allow this to rob you of a happy life, or your children of their mother.  Writing to us shows me you want to fight this, and I know you can!  Please don't worry your life away to where you wake up one day an old person and wonder where the years went. Find a way to get to the doctor so you can start to feel better.  I know it's not easy, I've been there but you can do it.  We're here to support you and listen and offer help, so you're not alone.  Many of us have been where you are, so you're talking to people who truly understand.  Take care.

I know exactly how you feel.  I constatnly think that I have something major going on with me.  I have gotten better since I started therapy.  I was also really against taking meds but I have been on them for a few weeks now and I am glad that I am.  You might want to consider talking to a therapist and maybe taking medication.  I use to think that I would always have to be on the meds and after talking to my dr and therapist that probably is not the case.  I am a mother of 4 so I can relate to your stress levels.  Anxiety can take over our lives if we let it.  You have to decide what avenue is best for you to overcome it.  Maybe start with a physical and bloodwork up and then go forward from there.  You have already taken the frist step by posting here.  Remember you are not alone....I hope you feel better soon!!!

I am exactly the same way!! I think I'm dying of everything, but am too scared to go to the docs. I have a chronic sinus problem that I think is an infection that will kill me if I don't get it checked out, among other things. I think I'm going to have have a brain aneurysm everytime I feel a pain in my head, etc.....I feel like I'm the worst hypochondriac in the world! I am a mother too. So, I think alot of our anxiety comes from our high stress levels. I have a stressful job and never want to go to work. I live for the weekends!! I'm at work now, and just keep watching the time. I'm waiting for lunch break now, just so that I can get out of here! I'm having a panic attack right now as we speak, and I feel like i can barely breath!

Thanks for the replies. Anxiety is so unfair. I'm thinking of trying a homeopathic doctor, 10 yrs of this is getting old. I'm sitting here needing medical attention for a female issue that most people would have gone to DR or ER by now and I can't seek it out for nothing. So frustrating.

HI Katie, I also think everything is wrong with me.  I always think the worst.  Daily I feel like I'm having a heart attack, will die of colon cancer, feel aches and pains and think they are something critical.  I however work in a hospital and go to the doctor all the time.  They are always kind enough to do workups on me but everything always comes back normal.  I have health insurance and I certainly use my benefits.  I recommend you find a dr, let him know what you suffer from, and let him run all the tests you ask for.  You'll feel better for it.  Peace of mind.

The problem with me going to a doctor is I have severe panic attacks just going with my husband or kids. I am homebound. And Im terrified the doctor will find something seriously wrong. :(

I know how you feel too. Right now I'm obsessing over these le/skin sensations. I have been told they are from my low back, also they could be the klonopin withdrawal or anxiety. Of course I wonder if it is the start of a neurological problem. I just hate how my mind works. So your not alone. Medication will help and you need to start living life NOW.  So what it is we have to do to live everday we should do it. We're all struggling will you. Your in my prayers.
