Hello all. Im a woman who suffers from Panic Disorder/Anxiety. Here's the story and then I'll get to the question.

I went to my PCP 3 weeks ago. He diagnosed me with a Sinus Infection, gave me antibiotics (Augmentin, 2 a day for 10 days) nasal spray, and cough medicine. I took the cough medicine because It stopped the coughing, but i stopped after about 3 days with cough syrup because the mucus was stuck in my chest, I work in the medical field, so I know for a fact, it's best to get the mucus out. It's now 3 weeks later and I have back pain like I never felt before, my head feels like its gonna explode, again, and Im still coughing up mucus and have all the other symptoms of whatever this is thats I have. (body aches, headache, lethargic, nausea, NO Fever though?)

I feel like I have an infection going through my body, but without a fever. I went to the Hospital this morning, because I woke up with the back pain spreading to my upper back, and my head is so congested it feels like it going to literally explode. I called my husband to let him know I was going, and his response was "Are you serious? You don't need to go to the Hospital for something little like that" He sounded pissed off, and I know he was reffering to my anxiety, but I tried explaining to him that this is "REAL" and I know it! Then he started to complain about paying for the hospital visit and it made me feel bad/guilty, so I just left the hospital and came home before the doctor even saw me.

I have only went to the Emergency room 2 times before because of chest pain, which they couldnt do anything about since it was anxiety related.

Do you think this is my anxiety??? Should my Husband react this way to me???

So you took the full course of antibiotics?  Is it possible to go into a same-day urgent care facility for a dx?   That would cost a lot less and then you'd know for sure if you should head for the hospital.

No your husband shouldn't have reacted that way, even if it was "just" anxiety.  Those feelings are VERY REAL.  I'm still paying for my 2 ER visits and I'm not happy but I needed to go for my own sanity.

if you were coughing really hard you might have temporarily strained a rib muscle or something.  It can happen.  If you were combining a cough with sinus congestion, it sounds more like a virus than a sinus infection.  The flu can last a long time, so can a cold, and antibiotics do nothing about either of them except weaken your immune system.  Many docs give antibiotics just to give them; that may have happened here.  There's a tremendous overuse of antibiotics.  It causes a dieoff of the beneficial bacteria in your intestinal tract, which then leads to other infections taking advantage of your weakened condition.  Continual use can lead to chronic problems.  Once you take antibiotics, you do need to take the complete course, so when you're finished, buy a good refrigerated probiotic at a good health food store and take them until the bottle is finished to replenish your beneficial bacteria.  As to sinus infections, sometimes they are pretty bad and need an antibiotic, but more usually they are mild and go away by themselves with a little TLC.  But sinus infections aren't in the pulmonary tract, where the cough is, so it could be allegies or, as I said, a virus.  There are natural remedies you could try, or just wait it out, but it's probably something real, not anxiety.  The anxiety just makes it seem more urgent than it would if you didn't suffer from anxiety.  Won't comment on your husband; my wife gets awfully tired of my complaints, and I can't say I blame her.  At least she's still around!  Hope you feel better.

I did take the full course of antibiotics.

Guess what 2 days after I posted this I felt COMPLETELY normal as if I was never sick!!! How does that happen!!! Well I guess it's true when they say you get worse right before you get better, lol.

Thank you guys!
