PANIC ATTACK

OK I'M PRETTY SURE I HAVE BEEN HAVING PANICK ATTACTS FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS NOW MY DR. GIVES ME XANAX WHICH I SOMETIMES TAKE .5 MG SOMETIMES ONCE A DAY,SOMETIMES TWICE A DAY. THE NEW PROBLEMS I'VE BEEN HAVING IS I'VE GOT A LOT OF GAS AND SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE MY HEART DOES NOT BEAT RIGHT,GET RID OF THE GAS THEN THE HEART SOUNDS RIGHT.THE OTHER THING IS LATELY MY CHEST AND FACE WILL GO NUMB FOR ONLY A FEW SECS. THEN IT GOES AWAY AND IT SCARES THE HECK OUT OF ME. IS THIS A PART OF HAVING A PANIC ATTACK?ANYTHING I READ ON THE NET I END UP THINKING I HAVE IT. AM I NUTS? ANY INFO WILL HELP.THANK YOU.

It is definitely a common feature, read some threads here and you will see that.  I have had similar feelings, and sometimes its not that it's really numb as much as that I'm *worried* that its numb, or feels 'different'.

Hang in there brotha!  See your doctor, and do some reading up.

Anxiety is a terrible disorder that many of us deal with.  You need to become informed on the symptoms and treatments for it.  A good start would be as the above posted.  Also, check out  www.anxietycentre.com    and click on the symptoms which is on the left hand side of the home page....your symptoms definitely can be caused by anxiety and are definitely treatable under the right doctor's care and hard work from you!

No, you're not nuts.  Just about anything can be a symptom of a panic attack.  Panic is a physiological response and can mess with the digestive system, for example, explaining the gas.  You should consider going back to your doctor and asking if you should change or adjust your medication.  Therapy might be a good idea, too, if you're not already in it.
