PLEASE HELP!!! Feels like i'm going insane.

Currently I'm 23 yrs old.   I feel completely detached from reality and it seems to be getting a little worse.  At night I have racing thoughts, I hear friends voices and music flying throughout my head.  I'm not actually having delusions or anything just hearing stuff inside my mind and it keeps me up.  People say this is a common sign of Bi-Polar but I could hold a perfect conversation with you without constantly changing the subject and I'm definitely not manic.

I also have intense feelings that i'm going absolutely insane.  Every day I feel like i'm going to go mad and end up in a pysch ward.  Yet if you saw me on the street and struck up a conversation you would never guess in a million years.  So far I can hide it pretty well.  The being detached part can be described as feeling like I'm in a dream and I get into these intense panic modes because I just feel so out of touch with reality.  I also cannot smoke marijuana anymore!!!!  If I smoke i'll get way to paranoid and actually feel completely insane.  I'll get so scared i'm going insane that I won't be able to talk and my thoughts will go out of control!!!!  I also can barely ever binge drink anymore because the next day the symptoms will be 100 times worst.  Literally.  A day later though they'll be back to normal.  I first started feeling detached from reality after my first drinking experience when I was 17 so maybe the alcohol triggered it.   I've also never felt really depressed.  However feeling like your in a 24/7 dream state and having racing thoughts at night doesn't make you feel good!

PLEASE HELP!

Firstly, there can be after effects of smoking marijuana and binge drinking. If that's still a concern you need to follow up with a dual recovery group for a person with a psychiatric disability and substance abuse issue. Some of the symptoms you are describing may very well be caused by that but feelings of depersonalization, derealization and dissociation can occur in severe anxiety attacks, where a person feels completely detached from the world but at the same time is not psychotic in the standard sense. Only a psychiatrist would understand all this definitively and what would apply to you but it would be worth speaking to one.

I agree with ILADVOCATE completely.  Extreme anxiety can cause the feeling you are having, the unreal feeling.  As far as the voices in your head, I am not sure if you are actually hearing them or if your mind is in full blown anxiety mode and your thoughts are racing.  All sounds like very bad anxiety to me and maybe worsened by pot smoking and alcohol.  You could have an allergic reaction to either by the way.  I would find a good psychiatrist and explain you feelings to him/her.  A good medication can calm your mind and allow you to function normally.
God Bless...

Your story sounds JUST like mine!! Mine  started by pot or drinking when I was a teen. But this time was just stress !! Depersonalization...it is horrible and you think you are going CRAZY and you feel like you are just here doing the motions of life !!! I felt there was no help at all. I would think a million things a min. What if I have a brain tumor what if I die what if I wont remember anyone and will be put in the nut house. The what If's are HORRIBLE. Go to the doctor, they can give you something that will help!!!! I am better Now and I was so bad I had to go to a crisis center for a week. But I feel like my old self again :-)  My kids and my husband are very happy and so am I !! It is amazing how anxiety can make you feel so out of control . Good luck and if you need to talk just PM me I will be happy to talk. Because when you are dealing with this it feel's like nobody understands and you are all alone!! Well honey you are not, please let us know how you are doing.

I feel much that way much of the time, while its probably no help to you, it does help us all to not feel alone. Good luck in this tough journey. Keep the hope!!
