Panic attacks?

over the last through days i keep suddenly not being able to breathe properly and i get super sensitive (e.g. someone nearly hits me in the face and i start crying even though there is no reason). i was thinking i could be having panic attacks but wasn't sure, as i am terrified of literally everything this has affected my sleeping pattern as i wake up terrified and can't breathe. my mum thinks I'm faking and I'm only 13 so i can't go to a doctor by my self. what is this and what shall i do? thanks everyone!

I'm sorry your mum doesn't believe you. Tell her a mum and her son should have mutual trust between them, and when you have a health concern she shouldn't question your sincerity. Remind her that one day when she's a senior citizen, you may be making medical decisions for her. I'll bet she'll want you to believe her when she's the one having a health issue! That's coming from a dad with four kids.

It does seem like you're struggling with anxiety, panic, and just plain nervousness. When you are having trouble breathing right, try taking slow, deep breaths, and exhaling slowly. Your belly should move in and out when doing so. There are lots of YouTube videos on how to calm yourself through proper breathing.

Also, when you have a panic attack, like in the middle of the night, tell yourself "This is just anxiety, so I'm fine. Anxiety can't hurt me." Which is true, by the way. Try the slow, deep breathing to help you settle down.

If your mum is still unwilling to take you to the doctor, try talking with a trusted teacher, or the school nurse if you have one.
