Paranoia and anxiety

Hi,  lately I have been feeling like people are out get me, I will see someone sitting in a parked car and feel like they are waiting for me.  I get frightened I am not sure why I feel like this.  I did loose a close friend a couple of months ago and folks are telling me that I haven't completely finished grieving for her but I wish that I could not feel like this anymore.  I thought that it was a hormonal issue but I am not sure.  I made an appointment to see someone but I have a fear that they are going to put me on heavy meds and I will not be able to function without them.  I just wanted some insight from others that have gone through this or going through it.

Yes this may very well be psychosis. And as for what medication they'll use what would be a standard starting antipsychotic would depend on the particular psychiatrist but Abililfy which is a standard antipsychotic for example, doesn't have that bad a side effect profile. Try taking the antipsychotic they give you and see. And then post more afterwards. But find out about it by looking it up online.
And always remember they are developing newer and better treatments all the time. As a person who has made a full recovery with glycine, a new form of antipsychotic in Phase II FDA study called a glutamate antagonist, I can firmly state that. The case study on me will be published in a psychiatric journal. In the meantime google "Dr. Javitt, glycine".
And think differently. Instead of "they are going to put me on heavy meds" say "I am going to take an antipsychotic and stop having psychotic thoughts. It will help me". And find out more about them. How they work. What are the good effects. And side effects. Speak to your psychiatrist directly and you'll get honest answers. An educated consumer gets the best response. There's nothing to be afraid of. As you have less paranoia you will actually feel better. Take a different approach.
