Paxil CR

by girlwithnolife, Oct 31, 2009 10:52PM
Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also. Do have a few side effects (ear ringing being main 1 but I thought it was a small price to pay for NO panic attacks. Now all I see is horror stories. Any 1 out there have positive experience with this drug? Thanks in advance, Stephanie

Everyone can react to medications differently.  There are people that don't like SSRIs like Paxil while others swear by them.  I am a proponent of them as long as they are combined with talk therapy...remember, they will not 'cure' anything but, in my opinion, are a tremendous help when learning to confront your anxiety.  Also, horror stories tend to catch our attention more than the positive ones, so take everything with a grain of salt.

Hi

Hi I appreciate your reply. I have had talk therapy for 26 years and am still having it but mine seems to be a genetic predisposition chemical imbalance. And no therapy, even though it is nice to talk to someone, has ever worked. Went through behavior modification, relaxation and breathing techniques to name a few and nothing has ever worked for me. (Except some meds) My therapist also said that therapy doesn't work very well for my type of disorder, that it works better for PTSD, later onset panic, etc. Take care, Steph

I've done great with it! For about 2 years. I just switched to reg. paxil, with no problems (switched so ins. would cover it).  There are lots of people who take it successfully and also are able to come off of it successfully, but just like with anything else, those who do have difficulty are more likely to discuss it online, so we don't hear of the positive stories so much.

I have been on Paxil 20mg for about 15 yrs. Its a relatively low dose for panic disorder & for years I have gone without panic attacks and then there are time like now where they are back. I wont up my dose bc I am comfortable on it, meaning no negative effects. Although if I do miss more than 1 dose you do feel very off and experience the brain zaps. Its a med that needs to be tapered off.  I have tried other SSRI's and experienced negative effects so its really all subjective to the individual. Keep in mind you need to have a positive attitude or your anxiety can cause you to think you are having side effects etc...
So keep an open mind and best of luck to you!
