You say YOU'VE been "messing with the dosage" for the two weeks you've been on it?
Bad, bad person! Why did you do that? Was it because you weren't "thinking straight?" I'm assuming you are old enough to know that ALL meds comes with the caveat "Take ONLY as directed by your doctor!"
So now you've accidentally taken a whole mg of the stuff and no doubt are falling off the floor. I would suggest the couch and lots of water. I would also suggest a call to your local pharmacist for some advice. They will also be able to help you calm down, and probably explain this feeling of falling you are experiencing. They can not change your dose, but since you already have a current prescription, they can give you advice on whether or not to take the remaining dose tonight before bed.
And as far as going "cold turkey," I have no idea..........but my gut is certainly saying "NO!" really, really loud. The books say not to stop abruptly after long-term use, which I don't think two weeks is considered, but you feel crappy now, why take the chance on making it worse?
Get through today as best you can. First thing tomorrow, get in to see your doctor no matter what you have to do!
I wish you the best. Let us know, OK?

Like an idiot, I took a .5 mg this morning and I'm KICKING myself for doing that. I'm just not thinking straight right now. I've been messing with the doses now for two weeks. Never taking more than .5mg each time. Could I go off cold turkey in this amount of time or no?
I'm thinking maybe not taking any more until late this evening and only taking 1/2 of the .5mg and that's it. And I'll call the doc tomorrow am. This is horrible. I'm pissed off and irritable because my whole day is ruined now.
If you've been on the lorazepam (Ativan) for two weeks now, it seems to me that the dizziness should have abated by now. Why it hasn't suggests to me the POSSIBILITY of you having an over-sensitive reaction to this particular med.
The first side effect of lorazepam listed under CNS (central nervous system) is dizziness, so it's not to be unexpected. But the fact that yours is such that you feel you are going to "fall over" and are afraid to ride your horse because of this, then in my humble opinion, you probably need to try a different med or cut your dose way down. But I am not a doctor and only he/she can alter your dose or change your meds, so my advice is to get in to see them as soon as possible. And by the sounds of it, you should probably have someone drive you there! As for all the benzos, it does seem that the side effect of dizziness is in there somewhere, but that doesn't mean that a different drug would have this same rather nasty effect on you. Some of us have to try several meds before we hit on the one that is right for us. Don't give up, just talk to your doc..........and let us know how it's going, OK?
