Poll on Anxiety and Thyroid relations

Hello

I am the Co Leader over on the Thyroid Forum and happened to surf over here from a member posting on my board.

I read through many anxiety posts and see alot of common things with anxiety here - that are definately connected to low adrenal and/or thyroid function.

I am wondering how many of you have had the "right" testing for thyroid. Free T3 and Free T4 - with a TSH test or took a saliva test for 24 hr adrenal function to see really where you are at thyroid hormonally.

Respectfully to your leader here - I'd like to ask for permission to post the poll?

I am not sure if I had those tests- I'll talk to my doctor about getting those.

I have had FT3 and FT4 labs done from first diagnosis of Graves and Hyperthyroidism.
I still continue to have them done after RAI, Thyca & TT (June 2008).
I guess I am one of the lucky ones who had a Doctor who knew what he was doing...not like the Endo I had who I saw on 2 occassions.
I fired her after RAI as she was totally useless, basically telling me that the 'so-called anxiety' was not from the thyroid or my levels.

I had a saliva test done by my naturopath and my thyroid and adrenals were both found to be in a very bad condition. I want to answer your poll, but my answer is not found on there. Basically, I was put on some herbal supplements for the thyroid and adrenals, got put on progesterone cream for several months, and went on a special diet that I still continue and have not had a panic attack since in over 3 years. I absolutely agree that the thyroid and adrenals have so much to do with anxiety that it is incredible that it isn't tested for more often.

Hi stella and welcome to our little corner of the world! (Slummin' are you?) LOL

As far as I'm concerned, you are more than welcome to post your poll here. We get so many questions about thyroid issues and we also ask many posters if they've had theirs checked........I was aware there could be a connection between thyroid and anxiety, but beyond the TSH test, I had no idea there was so much more that could be done! Your poll was incredibly educational and if you don't mind, I would like to add it to our health pages. I will also begin to direct posters to your site for better and far more accurte information than I can give them.

I will also keep this poll bumped to the top so as many folks as possible can see it.
Thanks for a great contrabution!

(And the next time I see MY doctor, I'm going to ask for all the testing mentioned. She has never done more than the TSH)

Warmly,
Greenlydia

Happy to help. I am glad this is working out. Try to get as many as you cane to venture the poll.

I can give you the medical research articles on anxiety and thyroid/adrenal distress if you want those added to your pages. I have about 7 eyars of stuff. Give me some time though I am crazy busy until January

Slumm'in LOL - just another thing I added to my plate. LOL

Hi i have bouts of anxiety, i don't like busy places i get so anxious and stressed, but also about how others feel i get so anxious i make myself poorly, i have an underactive thyroid which i only get tested once every 6mths which apparantly is in mid range whatever that is, i do feel tired and bloated, they just test the tsh and t4. But i have suffered anxiety for years even as a child but never been diagnosed, now all my children are showing similar symptoms, tummy aches headaches and say they don't want to go to places as they don't like it and then go hyper especially the younger ones. My eldest a lad who is 18yr s old smokes marujana which he knows i don't like him to as this makes him even more paranoid but not that even drinking shorts does also, he gets so aggressive with it, which i know isn't normal as everyone else will be enjoying themselves, i feel sad for him as he is the only one that feels like this, he wasn't social much at all in primary, he actually hung around with an autistic boy.
