Positive lexapro experiences please anyone??

I really need to hear some positive stories please. All I seem to hear is negative things about anything. I want to be positive about getting better. I couldnt care less about weight gain. I dont have a life at the moment anyway so if it means I gain weight but can get out and have some fun then so be it!! I have been on it for only a week so need to look forward to something.

Thanks guys. So far I feel a little foggy and down actually. I dont think they have even started to penetrate yet, not expecting anything for a while.

Lexapro is not the generic one. I opted for the normal one for this time anyways.

I think I am feeling anxious just in worry that they wont work?? Everything makes me worry!!

"All I seem to hear is negative things about anything. I want to be positive about getting better."

This is why I am forever reminding posters to try to balance the good with the bad....when it comes to any topic on this forum, but especially meds.  I'm sure people are tired of me saying the same thing....but your post is exactly why we all need to make sure that IF we are sharing a negative experience about something...that we specifiy that OUR story won't be the same for everyone.  And, when something is our opinion...it needs to be stated as so.

ANYwho...I've also had great success with Lexapro.  I had some pretty significant side effects for about the first 2 weeks (gradually decreasing as the days went by)...I experienced headaches, feeling "jittery", anxious...like I had drank a pot of coffee on an empty belly.  Once those side effects resolved, the Lexapro really worked VERY well for me!

Just be patient...don't be "waiting" for side effects....or a certain outcome.  Allow yourself to have your own experience...and keep up the positive attitude as best you can.  THAT is half the battle sometimes!  Remember too...that in order to really judge whether these types of meds are working...you need to give it 4-6 weeks, sometimes a lil longer.

Best of luck to you, let us know how it goes!  :0)

hiya, hope your doing well.... can i just ask, what is Lexapro? is it a SSRI? is that the gerneric name or the brand name... in England the names are all different but the doc's usually call it by the generic name... like Paxil is Paroxatine, Zoloft is Sertraline bla bla...lol  Do you know?

Adding on... I've practically have had ZERO side effects from Lexapro. The only thing I had for just a short short time, was a little sexual side effect... but it left about a month later. And, considering I was still having some anxiety at the time,... it could have just been my anxiety causing my sexual side effect? who knows. lol.

I take Lexapro! It works wonders for me! I'm only taking 2.5mg, and people will argue thats not enough... but I started at 5mg... and that helped me get out of my "funk"... then my dr. okayed me to lower to 2.5mg if i wanted... now im thinking about going back up to 5mg. Am seeing my Dr. tomorrow. =)

You are on the right path it sounds like. =) Anxiety will hopefully be a thing of the past to you soon.

God Bless.

I also know many people that are on it as well.  For the vast majority of them, they say it works well.  I have never been on it, but I have been on other SSRIs like Lexapro.  I am big proponent of medications like these as long as you combine it with talk therapy.  Remember, meds like these will not "cure" you of anything in the long term, but they are useful while you learn about your anxiety in my experience with this.  For me, it did take about a month or so to kick in, and it did raise my anxiety level a bit as I was adjusting to it, but after awhile I really did not notice any major side effects, but remember we are all different.  Also, try to focus on the postive...for every horror story you hear about these medications there are literally thousands of positive experiences.  Keep us posted!

I have friends  who use it in combination with Klonopin or ativan.  They say it works really well.  I know it takes about a month to kick in.
