Prozac with Wellbutrin?

by mysticmoonchild, Jul 24, 2008 04:11PM
I'm on 10mg of Prozac and have noticed some weight gain within the past 2 months or so and my doctor has suggested I start taking Wellbutrin along with the Prozac but my biggest concern is having  panic attacks.  I suffer from panic disorder w/ agoraphobia and the Prozac has been helping but I'm afraid that adding on the Wellbutrin may counteract that.  (I know it is considered a stimulant for a lot of people - hence the usual weight loss.)  Is there anyone else here who has an anxiety disorder and is taking this combo of meds with good results?

Namaste,

Prozac is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Prozac affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Prozac is used to treat major depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder) obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Wellbutrin is an antidepressant medication.

Wellbutrin is used to treat major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder. At least one brand of bupropion (Zyban) is used to help people stop smoking by reducing cravings and other withdrawal effects.

Prozac is effective in minimizing and/or eliminating the symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety.

The addition of Wellbutrin, also an anti-depressant, will in all probability have no effect on destabilizing your current situation.

If, on the other hand, you find yourself becoming more anxious or having panic attacks for no good reason, contact you healthcare provider and let him/her know what is going on.

But, as I said, I don't forsee any problems.
