Raine

Time for my freak-out!  My blood numbers came back all crazy and I made an appt. with a hemotologist.  I can't be seen for three weeks!  I am going to go crazy now.  Do you have your numbers to compare with me????

I am so scared now.  For example, my hemoglobin is 9.4.  I know that that is low, but it is always low with thallasemia.  but I have lots of others real low also....
Hemocrit 29.2
MCV 67.9
MCH 21.9
Platelet count 104

large platettes were also seen.....does any of this mean anything to you???  HELP ME!!

I would think that if it was serious they'd have you in there ASAP!!!  I know doctors can be very persuasive about getting their patients in if something is seriously wrong.

Hang in there!!!

You are going to be fine!

Thank you Raine...I will have to see.  Last time i went for blood in May, my platelettes were normal.  I don't know why they dropped so much.

Bip-My appt isn't until Oct. 8.  So until then I will think I have a terrible life-threatening blood disorder.  I DON'T NEED THIS RIGHT NOW!!

Suzi, sorry you are freaking out.  Try to calm down (I know, easier said than done)  I don't have my latest numbers.  But I have blood test results from a year ago.  You MCV and MCH numbers are very close to mine.  In 2005, they were

MCV 66
MCH 20.5
HEMATOCRIT 39

In 2006, they were
MCV 64
MCH 20.2
HEMATOCRIT 39.5

My platelet count were 262 in 2006 and 269 in 2005.

They were all considered to be in normal ranges.  You can look online regarding the platelet count.  I really don't know much about it.  Sorry I don't have more current figures.  I didn't get a copy.  But I will be seeing my doctor this Friday, unfortunately, for yet another symptom.  I can ask him for a copy then.  Hope it helps a little.  PLEASE TRY NOT TO WORRY!!!  Did your GP say anything?

Thalassemia is a chronic anemia.  Raine and I both have it in the minor form.  It is not life-threatening.  If we were majors, then their would be a problem.  It is that our red blood cells die off faster than the ordinary person.  Therefore, our hemoglobin is low and so are other parts of our blood.  All the numbers are all over the place.  Most likely, my results are due to my condition but of course I need to check into it to just make sure.  I am hoping that is all that it is and not something else that is developing.  My numbers are a little lower than the numbers from May, but I know that the numbers can fluctuate.  I am just panicking because of my personality...I am just afraid that THIS time they will find something more.  JUST LIKE ALL OF US!!

I didn't talk to the doctor yet,..she sent me a letter and she isn't in today.  I had a routine blood test done because my bloodwork is always off because of my thallasemia.  I am just so scared right now.

I posted to bip before I saw your post. Why did you have the blood work done? Have you not been feeling well? I am so sorry that I did not know. I wish I could help you and know what the numbers mean. What did the doctor say about the results?
