Recovering From Anxiety

by idreed, Nov 04, 2009 10:00PM
My doctor has diagnosed me with an anxiety and conversion disorder.  The conversion is due to the anxiety.  I am currently taking clonazepam and lorazepam, but the drug has now made me more anxious and irritable.  How can a person begin to recover from anxiety and wein themselves off of the drugs used to treat it? Also does anyone know of any mental health clinics in northern california which offer services for anxiety disorder, i.e. therapy, at low cost or free.

I am not really sure about health clinics in Northern California...I am on the other side of the country...sorry!  But, I believe that you have the right attitude in seeking help through talk therapy.  For me, shedding light on what causes the anxiety helped me confront it and deal with it in a practical way. How long have you been on the medications?  Keeping your prescribing doctor informed on what is going on with them is extremely improtant in my opinion; sometimes what is good for one may not be the best for another...keep us posted!
