Scared of the Life Insurance Exam

Hello All,

This is my first time on such a place and I think I really want to just put this in words somehow. I've been in a monogamous relationship for almost 14 years. I had a pretty mild single existence when it came to sex. I had very few partners (female partners, I am male), but even in those few occasions I wasn't always careful. I have never even thought about it until the last few weeks, because we are getting life insurance policies and they test for the big one (HIV). I have never been tested before in my life. Now that it is upon me I have been consumed with the "what-ifs". I have children and have no idea if my partner was screened during pregnancy. I know in my heart that I am fine, but as many of you may know it seems not to matter. It is like I am in a room with 100 people and 99 of them say that I am fine. But the one in the back keeps screaming "what if!" and I can't ignore him. I hope this makes sense to someone out there. Of course the internet never helps...lots of information on people who live with for 15-20 years with it and not know it. I'm scared and my life has ground to a halt. Nothing is like it was. The anxiety is consuming me. I just need to ask...

I'm alright...right?

There are many things that can scare us.  The papers are full of it everyday.  I think that as far as a person with anxiety, as I am, that we latch on to the scary and hold it close to our chests, ruminating and worrying until we make it our own....

I did see the news that the Medical Insurance Agencies or some type
of institution like that, is now pushing for everyone age 15 to 65 to have
HIV testing.  I am sure that there are alot of people worried needlessly since that blurb came out last week.

Nursegirl6572 has really solid advice to stop searching and stop reading as in the case of the anxious person, the anxiety is renewed every time you add the HIV info into the forefront of what is important to you today.

Please do come back and tell us how you are doing....and good luck to you

You have nothing to worry about.  While I cannot guarantee that you're not infected, I can tell you that from what you've said, it would be HIGHLY unlikely.

I CAN tell you that you're just feeding your anxiety by reading on the internet.  Like you said, there is a LOT of really bad info out there, plus, just overloading your mind with the info will cause more anxiety.  You'll feel much better once it's all over and you have your negative result.

IMO, you're going to be just fine.  Stop searching the internet, and stop asking people about it...you're only making more stress for yourself.  Stop back in when you get your negative result, and let us know okay?
