From what I understand SS is relativly short lived? Once the SSRI is out of the system, the symptoms go away.... From what I read and was told from my doctor (because I take Zoloft with Imatrex which in a very few cases can cause SS) once you remove the factor causing it, it will go away... So for it to last weeks? I don't think that is common at all and like Nursegirl said, its pretty intense (even though we may have milder forms of it) and will land you in the hospital.
My partner was diagnosed with serotonen syndrom well after she told the Psychiatrist she thought she may have it, She had all the relavent factors but they said no it isn't, you are just sufferring anxiety. When they realised that in fact it 'was' serotonen syndrom they prescribed her with pregabalin which helps alot alonfg side alot of other medication but, now and then she takes her dihydracodiene a little more than she should as it sometimes helps the way she feels and the next 4-5 days after is absolute hell. Is this the serotonen syndrom coming back?
Thanks for your replies.
I was wondering.... theoretically speaking, IF I had some sort of experience with experience with serotonin syndrome while on Buspar, does this mean that I will never be able to take Buspar again? I really enjoyed taking it and I wouldn't want that to happen...
interesting, I didn't know buspar effected a serotonin receptor. Most of the literature I came across didn't mention that, I am still leaning towards what nursegirl said. You would need something that effects your serotonin levels A LOT, which is why it is rare and usually is something you watch out for when combining two or more drugs that effect serotonin. Also, from the description of what happens, it would be like over dosing on cocaine. But you know yourself better that anyone else, if you think it was your anxiety with the added adjustment with new medication, I would just bring it up with your doctor next visit and see what he or she says. If you really think it could have been a bad reaction, then I would consider calling your doctor immediately, serotonin syndrome is life threaten. Best of Luck
Buspar is associated with serotonin syndrome from what I've read. It effects the 5-HT1a serotonin receptor. It is unclear whether THC raises serotonin, I have read both sides "it can" and "no it doesn't", so I don't know.
I don't think it is possible to have a serotonin syndrome from taking buspar and/or THC. Neither of these things effect your serotonin levels or your serotonin receptors. All medications that could cause this have to have the warning in the drug label. Buspar does not have anything about this. As far as "other" drugs that can cause this issue, stay away from ecstasy, LSD and Cocaine. Here is a good site with more information
