Serotonin Syndrome

Hi everyone,

I really don't think I have serotonin syndrome, but I am exploring all options.  I was put on 10 mg Prozac on Monday.  I only took three doses before it made me extremely sick and I stopped taking it.  My last dose was Thursday.  The only other medications I am on are Klonopin and Gianvi (birth control), neither of which should interact with the Prozac.  Since the prozac, I have been vomiting, not sleeping, and feeling "out of it".  The pharmacist I spoke with said it should take one more day to get out of my system.  If I did in fact have serotonin syndrome, I would most likely either be dead by now or coming out of it, correct? Like I said, I really don't think I have it but any insight would be appreciated.

Off 20mgs of lexapro for one month now, so very irritable, weepy, will this go away, do not want to go back on lexapro. Any vitamins and dosages that might help, will exercise help? Certain diet?

I should add to this....

It happens when multiple drugs/substances which affect serotonin are used concurrently, or very high doses of a serotonin affecting substance is taken..

Serotonin syndrome is rare to begin with, and certainly a 10mg dose of Prozac wouldn't cause it.  It happens when multiple drugs/substances which affect serotonin are used concurrently.

It sounds like you were just extremely sensitive to the Prozac and didn't tolerate it well.  Keep the lines of communication open with your doctor, and let him/her know how you're doing.  It will take a few days to get you feeling better if all of your symptoms are related to the Prozac.

Hang in there!
