Should I add Wellbutrin XL to Zoloft? No sex drive!

by CeeLBee, Jul 19, 2008 09:26PM
I am currently taking 200mg/dy of Zoloft, but have an almost non-existent sex drive. I am considering asking my doctor about adding Wellbutrin XL because it can help with this. I am hesitant because when I was on only 10mg Lexapro before (which worked much better, but caused low sex drive and weight gain), I added 150mg Wellbutrin XL and while it helped with the sex drive, it caused some anxiety. I take Zoloft for Social Anxiety and Depression. My appetite is better (normal) with Zoloft, but it's not as "potent" for anxiety as Lexapro. Always a trade off I suppose. What would you recommend for me?

Namaste,

One of the side effects of Zoloft is a decreased sex drive, whereas you're under the impression that Wellbrutin XL will negate your decreased sex dive. I am unaware of any such effect.

Zoloft is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Zoloft affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Zoloft is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

If you feel Lexapro is more effective in controlling your symptoms, you may want to continue treatment with that rather than Zoloft, although Lexapro will also effect your sex drive.

Your doctor, along with your input, have to decide whether the benefits of the medications outweigh the side effects.

There are also additional steps you may take to assist in your sexual performance such as Viagra, although that will not increase your sex drive(the desire to have sex).
