Side affects from generic Alprazolam

I have taken been taking Alprazolam .5 mg Mylan brand for years.  My drugstore recently switched to Sandoz brand which gave me heartburn.  The drugstore switched again to Dava brand which brought on anxiety and nervousness.  One last try with the pharmacy and they gave me Greenstone which is causing sleep problems, mainly insomnia.  Is the Mylan brand no longer available?  And are the side affects above possible since they are supposed to all have the same active ingredients.  Is it the filler?

Yes, it is the filler.  Each company that manufacturers the generic of a drug uses a different "filler" and it changes the way the drug is broken down and processed by your body. So you can have a different reaction to each generic.  I have had some generic drugs that had no effect on my what so ever when another worked fine.  My best advice would be that you ask if your pharmacy order the drug made my Mylan (yes it is available) and if they won't/can't then go to another one who offers it or will order it for you.

There is no reason you should suffer side effects.  I am sorry to hear you have gone through all of this.  I too take Alprazolam (Mylan) and have tried only two other generics but this one works best for me.  Good luck.  If you have a lot of problems I would talk to your doctor and have them call the phamamcy for you.

I never know from one month to the next what color my Xanax is going to be. I just get use to the new color and they change it on me. Fortunately, I have never experienced any side effects from the different pharmaceutical companies. But we all react differently, so as the above poster suggested, speak wtth your pharmacist who will be able to tell you if the fillers are different and if that is what could be causing these reactions. Also as the above poster said, you could call around and find a pharmacy that carries your normal brand, but bear in mind that pharmacies will buy the cheapest brand, so there is no guarantee that the new pharmacy would always have your usual brand either. I don't know if the brand name is still available. Many pharmceutical companies will stop making it once it goes generic because they can't make enough money on it anymore. But if the brand name is still available, you might want to try those.
Good luck

i still get the mylan so i dont think its been discontinued. you might have to do some calling around to find a local pharmacy that carry's that brand. you might be reacting to the fillers or colors or something like that. did you talk with the pharmacist about it? could it be your anxiety thats bring on these symptoms? i know i can almost work myself into a heart attack over something sooo small!
