Sleeping pills as part of the solution, not the whole solution

An opinion about sleeping pills, specially benzodiazepines, its abuse and excess of confidence on how safe they are:

Benzodiazepines can help regularize sleep on the short term but there are other options that should be considered mostly on long term treatments.

Benzodiazepines aren't sleeping pills.  If they were, I couldn't take one in the morning or I'd be tired all day.  And, also, there have been studies on benzodiazepine use beyond four weeks.  The pre-marketing trials didn't study that, but they were concluded YEARS ago.  There have been plenty of studies since.

Benzos have their drawbacks, sure, but that article didn't really address them.  It's definitely correct that there are better options for sleeping pills, of course, but benzos still have their uses.
