Sleepness Nights

Hey there i wanted to share my story with hopes of understanding what is happening to me. Im a 27 yr old male 190 lbs 5'10 ... I all started one night when i had just finished smoking a joint of cannibis. I was a heavy smoker smoking about two joints a day and this one was my last one before going to bed. I smoked it went to go lay down when all of a sudden my heart started racing really fast and strong also felt as if i was gonna pass out. Never had i felt that before that i went to the ER right away. I associated this as a cardiac problem. Doctors performed ekg, blood test, and chest xray and everything negative. Ever since then its when all things went to hell. I started having breathing problems, fealing like if i were gonna pass out dizzyness and recently premature heart beats arythmias... . Went to my physician where he alsO performed ekg, blood work, thyroid chek and echo. Results again were negative. I felt something was still wrong so asked him to refer me to cardioligist. Cardioligist performed ekg, and revised the previous exams i had taken and he also performed a stress test which all of course came out negative or ok ... But even with all that done i still have those symptoms of lightheadedness dizzyness im always thinking im gonna die and this is really messing up my life .. There have been some night where i cant sleep. My body is tired and i want to go to sleep but i just cant. And when i start falling asleep i get awaken by a sudden rush of fear. The fealing is similar to when someone sneaks up behind you and scares you. That goes on all night. I then watch tv and eventually fall asleep. Ive been a healthy person with no problems but i believe that a major case of anxiety. Also there has been times during the day that i feel like i cant catch my breath but once again i watch tv and it goes away. Can someone please help me figure out if this is only happening to me or has it happen to any of you. Any advise would help please .... Would you recomend that i see a psychiatrist for anxiety problems ... If he says indeed its anxiety which medicine would you guys recomend. Im sorry for the novel but i just had to let it out !!!

Hi and welcome!  No need to apologize, we're here to listen and help as much as we can. Since you've ruled out all other causes it's time to definitely address your anxiety. The fact that things get better when you are distracted also shows it's anxiety.  Anxiety can cause some mind boggling symptoms and the sooner you get help, the better.  I would see a psychiatrist for  an evaluation and the two of you can determine the best course of treatment for you....therapy and/or medication.  Therapy can determine if we have a "root cause" for our anxiety which is normally something traumatic from our past.  If this is the case, then learning what this is and dealing with it will ease your anxiety.  For many, no certain cause is found and medication is the answer, just like any other medical condition.  You may need medication while going through therapy as it can be a lengthy process.  A psychiatrist is most knowledgeable when it comes to the medications used to control the symptoms of anxiety.  We can't recommend medications because everyone responds differently to them....what works for one, may not for another.  You need to work closely with a psychiatrist in finding what will work best for you.  Anxiety is scary but it won't hurt you and it's the fear that drives it.  Try to keep your mind distracted from thinking about it, and exercise is great for working off the extra adrenaline.  I hope this helps and know you can get your life back.  We're always here for you!

Hey I read your post and it sound like I wrote it. For me it all started with smoking to, rushed to the ER, had plenty test done, it was horrible. Was on zoloft for afew months which helped. But now I have a relaps and it's worst then before. I to have sleepless nights actually I havent been able to sleep on my own for days now ( have to use medz to get to sleep). It sounds alot like anxiety, yes you'll need to see a psyc and probably some medz. I can't recommend any medz for u because different medz for different people. You'll have to try out afew before u find the right one for u. You'll be ok trust me
