Some help please

by turbo101, Sep 21, 2009 10:35PM
Hi im 17 and i suffer from anxiety and was just wondering if anybody could give me some techniques on how to calm down during a panic attack. My symptoms are shakiness, unable to stay still, severe panic which all lead up to me vomiting. I have been suffering with anxiety for almost 18 months now but the actual vomiting only started happening around 2 months ago. I have also noticed i am a lot worse in the mornings and tend to be calm at night, when im calm i tend to look down on my anxiety and feel stupid for letting it affect my life so much as im not as sociable as i was, lost lots of weight as i was quite muscular and i have had to put off college for two years. I just want my old life back are there any meds anyone could suggest that have worked for them ? I've also tried getting some cbt counselling but the waiting list is long so it could be a few months before i get a place.   Any answers would be much appreciated.

While reading your post, I assumed that you had simple anxiety, and possibly some depression. Then I got to the part where you stated you'd begun to vomit 2 months ago and have lost a lot of weight. In my humble and non-medical opinion, I believe you should see a doctor as soon as you can.
While I'm sure there are people out there who wind up vomiting during, or after, a panic attack, that, and losing a great deal of weight, are not typical symptoms of anxiety/panic.
It's good that you have an appointment for therapy, sad that you live in a country that makes you wait MONTHS to get help. I hope it won't take that long to see a doctor.
I wish you the best.
Peace

Get your thyroid checked, if you have not yet had it checked. So many issues related to anxiety are due to an out of balance thyroid.

Hi
Yes i have been to see a doctor and she explained to me that the vomitting was due to pure tension and the weight loss is because of my constant worrying, loss of appetite and because i dont work out anymore.
Thanks for replying

Ask your therapist to teach you deep breathing techniques to use while you're having a panic attack.  Meditation is also helpful in reducing some of the physiological symptoms of anxiety attacks.
