Strange feeling during evening brisk walk

Strange feeling during evening brisk walk

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and am getting better with it and am almost euthyroid. I also had several episodes of panic attacks. My doctor suggested me to go for walks to counteract anxiety. I did so regularly for last 1 month.

I contracted common cold in the start of this week. But I did not ceased to walk. I walk 3 kms. (approx 1.5 miles) daily on a track which has flat surface, staircases and slopes. Today I was feeling a bit low due to the cold, but still went for a walk. As I climbed the staircases, I felt fainted and got a bitter taste in my mouth. I was nauseated and sat down for a while. Heart rate was accelerated and I got panic symptoms. But I did not understand that after being able to walk the same track everyday without any problem, what went wrong today?

Was it angina? But there was no pain. A heart attack? Or the old panic attack? Or was it high or low BP/sugar? I came home, took a glass of water with a pinch of salt & sugar and felt better, but was dizzy.

I am 30 years old. Resting heart rate = 68 average. BP = Mostly 120/80 - 140/90. I take 20 mg Carbimazole with 5 mg Propranolol. Do not smoke or drink. No cholesterol problem (Cholesterol = 110, HDL = 44, LDL = 56, Triglycerides = 46), no sugar problem (Fasting = 88, Post-prandial = 79, Creatinine = Normal), but I am overweight now (185 lbs). Please help me to gauge what went wrong with me? Should I go for some additional tests before walking again?

As you were climbing the stairs, you felt faint, nauseated and had a bitter taste in your mouth. NONE of these are symptoms of either angina or heart attack. Your heart rate was probably already slightly elevated from the walk and the stairs and as you began to think there was something wrong with your heart, it would naturally increase due to anxiety. I would say you just experienced a panic attack.
I think the reason it happened this time and not every time you've gone for your walk is  due to your cold. That you felt better after after you took some water/salt/sugar but remained dizzy is again attributal to your cold. You're no doubt stuffed up and clogged sinuses and ears very often cause dizziness.
All of your stats are excellent and the walking will most definitely help with your weight. You didn't say how tall you are, so I don't know if 185lbs makes you morbidly overweight or just a bit too chunky like the rest of us!
Don't stop walking, just be aware if you get any of the same symptoms. That would be the time to talk to your doctor. I think, in my humble and totally non-medical opinion, that this was a one time event due to your cold.
And please try not to obsess about every little symptom you feel on your next walk. If you begin to feel anxious, stop and rest, deep breath and relax. Anxiety can create any symptom you care to imagine.
Can you find someone to walk with so you can talk about stuff rather than focus on your physical symptoms?
I think I answered your questions, but to restate, I think what you experienced WAS a panic/anxiety attack and I don't think you need to see your doctor before you walk again. See your doctor if the same symptoms keep appearing.
