Stress

I'm going through a divorce and he's being a bit of a bully.  I'm finding it hard to breathe and the skin on my neck and arms are burning like they're on fire.  Will this pass on it's own?

Thank you to everyone for all of your insight :)  I think I'll try the breathing exercises!

I really have to agree with Paxiled here.  First of all, Ativan is NOT a weak benzo.  It is actually a fairly potent benzo that is prescribed in the short term.  While medication can be an option (and I do support it), it will help in the short term, but it will not cure you  of anything in the long term.  As Paxiled said, counseling can actually get you on the road to fixing it.  Getting to the root cause of your problems by learning about it and getting it out in the open is the best way to get through this in my opinion.

Yeah, it's easier to see a doctor, but doctors can't fix it, they can only medicate it.  Ativan isn't a weak benzo, it's a benzo.  Good if you need them, but if you don't, best to stay away from them.  The easy way isn't always the best, but if you can't function, that's when its time for a psychiatrist, but not a regular doc.  Benzos aren't magic pills, they're serious medicine for people who need them.  Just saying this because the above post makes it seem as if benzos are like little magic pills without consequences, but they aren't., they're serious medicine and should be discussed seriously with someone who is expert in deciding whether they're necessary.  You'll still have the issues you have to get through, and so therapy is still going to be recommended to you by any psychiatrist even if there were to find benzos appropriate.

i have to say, my parents are divorced and alot of my friends parents are divorced. medications can help you, if you feel the need to go that far. it might be easier to see a doctor rather than a therapist. ativan is a weaker benzodiazepam, and it has helped me in hard times as well. i used to take 0.5 mg under the tounge. and within a couple minutes, its very easy to calm down, and just use it WHEN and IF you need it. rather than use it all the time. i would gladly give you more information if this is something you are thinking as well.

Most likely, but seeing a therapist can help you speed the process of getting through this.  Try to find one who can teach you some breathing exercises.  Nothing will eliminate this kind of suffering, it's gotta happen so you can get through it and not hang onto it, but you can make it easier and use it as a learning experience with the help of a good therapist.
