Stressed

Ok, so last Monday I had the worst panic attack that I have ever had. Anytime I have an attack I feel the need to see my family doctor. So I see him on Thursday. He checks me out and then wants me to have blood drawn for tests. Needles do not bother me, what bothers me is that they drew the blood on Thursday and sent it off for evaluation. This doctors visit didn't help because I am anxiously waiting for a call telling me that I have this, or that, or something grave. I just needed to share this because I am really fighting another attack ever since Thursday afternoon.

You say that you see your doctor after every panic attack. Are you TELLING him about the attacks? Because if you're NOT, then that is just stupid. How do you expect him to help you if you're not telling him the truth about what's going on?
If you ARE telling him and he is doing nothing to help you, then HE is a moron and you need to run away! Find a doctor who will LISTEN!

So, which is it?

Sounds like you need to be in some therapy for your panic and health anxiety and possibly on some anti-anxiety meds, but you won't get the help if you keep your mouth shut. And if your doctor knows and has not referred you to a therapist then HE should be treating cows, not people. (My sincere aplolgies to all veterinarians out there!)

As for the blood work, I'm sure it was just a routine panel and everything will be fine. If your doctor falls into the moron category, he is probably suspecting that he's dealing with nothing more than a hypochondriac and did the blood draw simply to appease you. Little did he know, perhaps because you've never told him, that by doing that he has sent you into a tailspin of panic.

It's either time to come clean with him or accept that he doesn't know how to deal with psycological issues and should refer you to someone else.
It's not the military. Having panic issues is not a "don't ask, don't tell" situation!
I do wish you luck

Sounds like you've got yourself a real "treat em and street em" doc.

I should've elaborated more. I have a pretty good doctor. He knows of my issues. My dad died in 1996 of cancer and ever since then I have been seeing my doctor. I had a panic attack soon after that and he has put me on different medications. Right now I am Cymbalta and an anxiety medication. I just like to see him as a "cushion" sort of. He usually does a routine checkup and I feel better. I hadn't had a panic attack in almost 2 years, so I think it was this bad because I had forgotten how to control it. I need to add that I like to drink some alcohol (not a problem) but I enjoy to cap off the night (when I don't have my daughter) so it scares me to wonder things like, what if I have stomach cancer or leukemia or liver disease or cancer of the thyroid., You know? I am just worried I am going to get a call and something is going to be wrong.

I have an excellent doctor and YES I am finally going to see a therapist on the 24th of this month. I hear it is great!
