With saliva and urine tests.
By the way there are several different ginsengs. Ashwagandha (Indian ginseng) normalizes cortisol. If high cortisol is keeping you up at night, ashwagandha helps to lower it. (Conversely, if one has low cortisol, ashwagandha serves to raise it.) The herb is also a sleep agent. Its Latin name is Withania Somnifera. No addiction and no side effects.
Hi there! You definitely have other options here, therefore you need to have a talk with your doctor. I would suggest trying a sleep aid first over the current benzo treatment, as that may truly be all you need. There are many diffferent meds out there to try for insomnia, like Alison mentioned, Trazadone is one of them, and many have success with that. Also, trying some moderate exercise in the evening a few hours before bedtime can be helpful, along with the avoidance of stimulants like caffeine (as also mentioned above), and if your doc gives you the okay, even an occasional glass of wine can do the trick. Point is, there are a lot of different things you can try. Discuss your options with your doc and let us know how you're doing. Good luck!
Thank you.
How do they check your aderals?
Ya I just looked up ginseng and it is used in energy drinks with claims of mental alertness and some of the side effects are insomnia and anxiety.
I thought ginseng was more of an alert agent??? Maybe I am wrong.
Maybe suggest Trazodone to your doctor. I take it at bedtime and it works fantastic. I get a good night sleep, it lessens my anxiety alot and it doesnt give me any side effects
These are some of the things they use it for
Unipolar depression with or without anxiety.
Bipolar depression in some circumstances
Insomnia.[3][4][5] (in some countries, this is an off-label use)
Fibromyalgia, to aid in sleeping.
Control of nightmares or other sleep disturbances.
[edit]Off-label and investigational uses
Panic disorder.[6]
Diabetic neuropathy.[7]
Bulimia nervosa.[8]
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).[9][10]
Alcohol withdrawal.[11][12][13]
Schizophrenia and other psychosis.[14][15]
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.[citation needed]
Also make sure you are getting lots of daily activity and not having caffeine etc after about 6pm. Good Luck!
Have your adrenals checked; the anxiety can have a physical cause. In the meantime take ashwagandha (Indian ginseng). It is very relaxing and soothing. Take it in the evening. No side effects.
