I would advise your wife to change from Effexor to something else. I have been on Effexor XL (150 mg) for about 2 years and have had awful side effect such as night sweating, extreme cravings for sweets, severe weight gain (30 pounds), loss of libido, excessive sleepiness mid-afternoon etc.. I have a wonderful husband who I have been with since High School, two beautiful children, a beautiful house etc. Effexor has done nothing but hurt my life! I have suffered with mild depression since the birth of my first child (Post Partum) and was on Paxil for a short period of time and went off it because I wanted another child. Once I had my second child, I suffered with depression (Post Partum which my OBGYN said would probably happen) a second time, went on Paxil and then went off it because I felt I didn't need it. To make a long story short, our son was diagnosed with Autism and I needed something to cope with my feelings of depression and anxiety so I was put on Effexor XL by my Primary Physician. BIG mistake!! The dose kept increasing but my depression/anxiety did not lesson. I have decided that I would like to try and see if my symptoms of depression/anxiety out weigh the side effects of Effexor XL are causing. I have learned to cope with my sons diagnosis but not the extreme weight gain, loss of libido etc. I am now going through extreme withdrawals after slowing lowering my dosage under my Psychiatrists care. It's been a month and I feel like I am drunk all of the time (dizzy), I have a short fuse and yell for no reason, I have flu like symptoms etc. If there is any way that your wife can go on another prescribed drug....PLEASE ADVISE HER TO DO THIS NOW!!! I thank God that I have such an understanding husband and family to put up with me! I feel VERY strongly that I WILL be the person I once was before Effexor XR ruined my life!!!
I am glad to hear that the Effexor is working well for your wife. I too was on Effexor XR 150 mg for years and did wonderful on it too. When I was on it, my sweating increased dramatically too. It is a side effect, but I personally dealt with the sweating as opposed to the constant anxiety! I don't understand why the Dr. would increase the dose to see if that was what was causing the sweating. If she is doing fine on the dose she is on, I would say stick with that. I hope her success with Effexor continues!!!
