Switching from 1mg xanax to valium

Been on 1mg xanax for 6 months 1 dose at bedtime, doc tried ativan and klonopin and both were short lived. Today he put me on 20mg valium at bedtime. Due to the short time I've been on the xanax will there be any problems. I also take 50mg Seroquel at bedtime. Reason for the switch is for the last few weeks I've been getting very jittery in the afternoons. It usually passes but my doc said without increasing the xanax it will get worse. Any help will be appreciated as from what I've read it can be a rocky transition. For the record I've always taken my prescribed meds as directed.

RYAN I didn't know it was twice the dosage, my doc said xanax .5 was equal to 10mg of valium. Once the interday jitters are gone can I go to just a nightly dose? My intentions are to wean myself off the Valium by the end of summer if possible. Thanks again for the input.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe 20mg diazepam is equivalent to 2mg of lorazepam, and 1mg of xanax. So I think your doctor was correct.

If I understand you right even when the valium is stable in my system I will not be able to go to a single nightly dose of say 10 or 15 mg. I started the xanax with the seroquel as I've had terrible insomnia for years. I did what you said today and took 5mg am and 5mg afternoon and will take 10 tonight but still feel a little jittery.

after I get to the theraputic level will I be able to ween off the daytime dose over time and will the groggyness of taking the valium during the day diminish. Also for the last couple days I've done .25 xanax in the morning 5mg valium in the afternoon and 10 at night as the 5mg in the morning for the first two days had no effect and work was tough. Can I do it this way for a few more days or just go back to 5 5 10mg valium.
