I am sorry if I am asking a question already answered. I'm attempting to find out some information about switching from Xanax to KlonopinKlonopin Klonopin wafer. I have been taking the Xanax pretty steadily for about 2 weeks (.5-1mg a day) and spoke to my doctor about KlonopinKlonopin Klonopin wafer instead. However, I'm wondering if it's okay to just start taking the KlonopinKlonopin Klonopin wafer in the Xanax's place, or should I taper the Xanax for a few days?
I think that b/c both Kalonopin & Xanax are both benzos, you won't experience too many side effects from making the switch. You really haven't been on the Xanax for too long. How many mg are you taking?
Two weeks of continuous Xanax use isn't very long, and making the crossover to KlonopinKlonopin Klonopin wafer should be very smooth.
At the worst, you may experience some anxiety for 2-3 days after making the switch. Once the KlonopinKlonopin Klonopin wafer reaches a steady-state level in your blood, the maximum effects will be apparent.
The usual dose for anxiety/panic (for Klonopin) is 0.5 mg BID (every twelve hours).
Making the switch now would be a wise decision, as extended Xanax use can lead to serious interdose problems (the drug is short-acting).
The major difference between these two drugs, if, of course, their half-lives. Xanax was designed as a PRN (as needed) drug to stop panic attacks, where as Klonopin was designed for the maintanence of anxiety/panic. Klonopin has a long onset of action (1/2 - 2 hours), where Xanax works rapidly (15 minutes). Klonopin-Valium-Librium are the top three choices for maintanence, with Klonopin being the more popular choice.
RE: switch from XANAX to Klonazepam. Although BOTH benzodiazepines, and schedule 2 (or 3), XANAX is much stronger depending on what you're taking. I was taking 2mg xanax 3-4 times per day, and it worked lovely for Tourettes (very mild) and GAD (generalised anxiety disorder). One of the main differences is that, you may feel as though your xanax was STRONGER. This is not really the case, it could have felt stronger because it hits faster, yet, it has a much shorter metabolic half life, where as K'pin has quite a long one, UNLESS your taking k'pin 2MG which are perhaps the strongest Benzo I've experienced, and longer acting that 2mg xanax. My advice, see ifyou can find an old manufacturer that still makes Gluthithimide (DORIDEN)..and, take that doriden and chop it into AT LEAST four pieces. THAT WILL HOOK YOU UP..actually I believe, just like RORER 714, they DO NOT make Doriden as it IS the strongest, sedative hypnotic I've EVER, EVER, EVER taken. Me faffer and mum used to take those for "the shakey days" as the old family phys called and me parents are no where NEAR addicts or anything of the sort, however DORIDEN was INSTANT EUPHORIC, quasi-sleepy time "ALL IS SO VERY, VERY right with the world" type medication, that when take WHOLE and NOT counted or watched carefully, it was discountined because to many blokes were taking it and flying away for good, BUT on a serious note, I suffer from Chronic pain, and because of the few bad apples at the pain clini that were selling their bottles of Oxycontin 40 mg (80 pillswith a street value of OVER 9 thousand dollars usd) I was moved to Methadone, which has one of the longer half lifes in mediations and PERCOSET 10/325. The point being if your getting HIGH from taking xanax or any other medication, then possibly it's being taken for the wrong reason. Those meds are VERY easy to develop a tolerance for.THE OXY was not, but I was taking 80MG twice per day for pain that most people cannot comprenend, BUT I like K'pin because it's LONG acting AND methadone forpain and Perc for breakthrough pain AND I have an intrathecal medication pump that wraps around my L5 S1 (perhaps on of the WORST disks to get injured and then have botched (TWICE) back surgery.
THe one thing I would advice against with Clonenazepam, etc. because of the half life is quitting as the first few days could feel a smidgeon weird, but I guarantee afterwards you'll feel SO HORRID that the ONLY remedy is a HUGE, PUFFY crackrock and BOOZE. HA! seriously...do what your doctor says, unless his/her accent is SO THICK you cannot understand, and that is NOT a racist, classist or elitist statement, seriously if you can't understand what a serious professional like such is saying, then, either have them write it down, fire them, have them write ti down THEN fire them, or, invvite them to a frybake a WHO HORRAH
you havent been on xanax long enough to worry about switching to klonopin. i have been taking 2mg xanax qid for over seven years and no have to switch to klonopin to begin to detox because i have to go to jail for six months now thats a serious problem. i just dont get the effect out of klonopin that i do of xanax but i used to do things like skip my midday dose so that i could double dose in the evening so its for the better. good luck.
Hi,
I don't think you need to worry about changing medication as they are both in the same class of drug. I take klonopin and have been taking it for about 4 months now, Before that I was taking 10 mgs. of valium twice a day til I started feeling like I was losing my mind and was thinking about suicide. I had been taking valium for 2 years. I suffer from GAD and have for 11 years. It has at times been disabling and I've been home bound afraid to go out or drive. I've seen therapists but so far, no one seems to be able to help.
How does a person stop thinking about the past? I think about my loved ones that have passed on and also my two kids who have moved away and taken my grandkids with them. Neither one of my kids will even speak to me and because of my anxiety, they don't want me to even speak to my grandkids. I love those children more than life itself and they are being denied knowing me. It's not fair. And today with it being Easter and most people spending the day with their loved ones, I am sitting here just me and my husband alone. It is almost to much to deal with.
I do wish all of you here a lovely day today. May you find yourselves with people who love you and don't judge you because you are dealing with a true ailment, it's not something one can just say, "get a grip and get over it!" That's what my only sibling has told me and now we don't speak. People need to educate themselves about mental issues. We certainly did NOT ask to have anxiety problems. Take care one and all.
