Switching medication

I have to go the doctor tomorrow, my doc gave me xanax 2mg twice a day but I find it is not working as well anymore and want to switch to klonopin since i heard it stays in your system longer and I had taken one before and it makes me relax so much more so Im hoping she agrees with me.  i want the 2mg klonopin so that I have that high dose in case.  She will probably say 2 a day as I have now but I probably will only need 1 if I have that dose.  Not sure what to say to her though without her thinking that I am seeking drugs.  She might lower the dose of the klonopin but I want hte 2mg cuz the one I tried was 2mg and I even felt fine in the morning when normally I would feel anxious when I wake up. any ideas how to approach asking her for same dose just different meds? an

Klonopin and Xanax are not 'dosed' in the same way.  Why not just have a frank discussion with your doctor about your concerns?  Do you have good relationship with her?  Also, are you getting counseling for your anxiety?  For me, the combination of medication and talk therapy can yield very beneficial results...keep us posted!

I totally agree with the poster since these meds are not meant for long term.    Eventually you'll need a higher dose.    During my first stint in detox,  there was a lady who was up to a daily dose of 6 mgs of klonopin and she was in poor shape as they attempted to withdraw her from that.      I was only on 2mgs daily and it was rough to get off.   btw,  4 mgs of xanax daily is a heavy dose as well.    Good luck.

Will only add that klonopin is a longer term anti-anxiety medication.  Therapy is always a good idea if you can afford it.  At this stage I  wouldn't worry about addiction.  And as cj29 mentioned xanax and klonopin are not comparable in terms of dosing.

Hope all goes well with your doctor.
