For me, it's the exact opposite. I start thinking about the possibility that I won't be able to swallow, and then it happens. It scares me each and every time. Since the thought spawns it, I'm convinced it's anxiety. So to combat it I immediately shift my focus to something else and the original thought/panic attack goes away.

Yeah thats how it starts for me... Either it will suddendly come on because of a sensation in my throat or i will think about it.. Then it happens. I actually panicked badly before because of it. I felt as if my throat was gonna close up or something like that. I was trembling/shaking and just thought I was going to die............ Scary for me. I hate it. :(

You`ll probably find when your mind is taken off it, you`re better. I mean when you think about it, it`s worse.

Yes, Yes, and Yes.  If I think about it, it doesn't leave my mind and I feel the sensations.  I hate it.  I am convinced that it's Anxiety.  I've been having the throat weirdness feeling off an on for almost 2-years now.  And I've talked to my doctor about it 3 times already.  I do have a Thyroid problem that is treated by medication though.
