THE SWITCH DO I NEED TO TAPER

If my dr switches me back to ativan from xanax will i need to taper off the xanax i have been on benzos for 18 yearts but in nov 08 and mainly dec 08 she switched me from o.5 mg of ativan to o.5 mg xanax and i have sunk in to deep depression and i feel so week ,im asking to be switched back to ativan,,,when she switched me from ativan to xaanx i ddint taper off ativan just stopped it should i taper off xanx going on the ativan or can i just stop it i dont want no withdrawals or overdose

I'd ask your psychiatrist for a titration schedule as regards medication changeover and more importantly suggest the idea of a longer acting benzodiazepene such as Klonopin (which I have been on ten years without a problem) because the shorter the half life of the medication the more the potential exists for a person to build up a tolerance to it.
