Tapered off benzos over past few weeks, now on Gabapentin and Trazodone.

For quite a few years I have suffered with anxiety problems, and used alcohol to control and self-medicate for several years until finally realizing the need for professional help with the anxiety that was fueling my alcohol use. Four years ago was diagnosed and prescribed Xanax, later on Ativan, and finally Clonazepam. Took those benzos fairly regularyl until just last week. The doctor said to taper off benzos which I did over the past two or three weeks, and she gave me last week Gabapentin 300 mg capsules, and Trazodone 50 mg tabs for sleep. So far so good. But will this continue or will I have benzo withdrawal over the coming weeks and months as I have read? Hope not. The Trazodone really works incredibly well at night for sleep. So far. The Gaba seems to be keeping anxiety in check very well so far. Just wanted another medical opinion on the effectiveness of these two drugs. Have read that Trazodone is by itself very effective as an anti-anxiety medication. Maybe I should just take that by itself? Or keep taking both?

We're not docs here, so no medical opinions, unfortunately.  Both meds have been used to help with benzo withdrawal, so you might have that covered, and not everyone has a bad withdrawal, but it does sound odd to leave it up to you for a taper schedule as quitting benzos can be dangerous and difficult, and sounds odd to put on two sedating meds at the same time instead of seeing if one worked alone.  On the other hand, if it works, cool.
