Tapering off Klonopin

Tapering off Klonopin

I have been on Klonopin 2mg twice daily since April of 2008, and I really need to get off of it.  I have researched different ways to taper along with supplements I can take, and would like to be on the BEST course with the BEST natural supplements to prevent withdrawal effects as they are EXTREMELY difficult to get through when stopped cold turkey.  I have cut my dose of Klonopin from 2mg twice daily to 0.5 mg twice daily in conjunction with St. John's Wort which does help, but doesn't take away all the side effects.  Can I also take GABA with B vitamins and fish oil? There is also a natural supplement called Positive Mood that you can get at GNC that is actually from The Center for Stress and Anxiety. And are there any other supplements I can take to ease the transition back to my old self?  II am DESPERATE and DETERMINED to do this.  Thank you for your time.

Talk with your doctor and be completely honest. I know - - easier said than done - - but you have to trust the doctor that Rx'd the meds for you. Good luck!

I'm going through a similar situation.  I have been taking 6 mg daily of clonazepam for 2 to 3 years now and have been trying to wean off slowly.  After trying to taper without any supplements several times unsuccessfully, I am now exploring different options.  My family physician is not willing to help so I'm pretty much on my own.  I've recently started taking b vitamins and magnesium.  My plan is to try to taper again after I've been taking the supplements for at least a week.
It's a huge accomplishment that you've been able to reduce your dosage from 2 mg to 0.5 mg twice a day.  How much of the St. John's Wort do you take per day?  I have been researching different herbs (valerian, kava, gaba, passionflower, ashwagandha, etc.) and having a hard time deciding which one to try.
I would ask a pharmacist or your doctor regarding the gaba, b vitamins, and fish oil.  The b vitamins are probably a good idea but I don't know enough about the other ones to comment.

I was taking xanax for a couple of years and when I tried to ween off I had crazy withdraws. So I decided to suck it up and prepare myself  mentally for a couple bad days.I then would start a detox . I would start with smooth move tea in the morning and follow that with 2 packages of raspberry's for breakfast and lunch and drink plenty of water. If I got hungry i would eat rice because it fills you up and it digest easily. I repeated this for up 2 to 3 days. Its all about getting the toxin out of you. The reason we get withdrawal is because there's still a little bit of the medication in us. Hope this helps, good luck.

I was prescribed 10 mg/day Klonopin. I actually ended up in the ER where the DR told my fiance to get me away from the Dr who prescribed all my meds, she was killing me. I couldn't find anyone to take me for detox and the new dr I was highly recommended wouldn't see me until I was clean of Benzoids. Finally I went to my Internist who said he would detox me. He put me on some meds to help with the withdrawals. It was horrible 4 weeks of withdrawals. Thought I was as close to dying as you can get. Actually took over 4 months to feel clean from that stuff. One time I was at the Dr office when he walked in with a shocked look on his face and told me "I honestly thought I'd see you in the ER before I'd see you back in here. This is tough to kick." I just said I didn't know I had a choice. Don't quit detoxing. It takes determination on your part and a good Dr. that can work a plan with you.
