Tingling in feet, legs, arms, hands, stomach & back

by angel0013, Jun 10, 2008 11:09AM
I really don't know what to do. I am tingling almost all over, in my feet, legs, arms, hands, stomach and back. 6 doctors later and they tell me it's anxiety, all tests for everything else are negative. This feeling is driving me insane. It's been going on for weeks. I have a hard time believing anxiety brought this on, and am seeking further medical advice. This is effecting me so bad I'm nearly depressed, any ideas?

The more attention you give those feelings, the more likely they are going to stick around.  As with a panic attack, you need to accept those tingly feelings and repeat to yourself that they are not going to hurt you, there is nothing wrong with you, it is just anxiety.  Every time you start to focus on these tingly feelings, repeat the process.  You are in a very sensitive state right now (anxiety) and any strange body sensations (tingling) are going to send you into a state of worry and anxiety.  You need to exit this cycle by convincing yourself that there is nothing wrong with the way you are feeling.

Yes it's easier said than done!  PM me if you want the name of a good (and cheap) book that can help you refocus, or at least gives a good explanation of what you are feeling.

You are okay!  You are not alone!

I have been having the same feelings.  It is like a kinda hot tingling feeling... right?  Mine comes and goes... it's so strange.  My doctor told me it could by my sciatica, but I doubt it.  I do have anxiety issues and have had panick attacks, but it just doesn't feel like anxiety to me.  It doesn't feel like anything that can harm me, it's just extremely annoying.  Until something worse happens I am not going to return to the doctor.  I am just going to keep positive thoughts and not let it make me worry... The weird part is I only notice when I am sitting down or am laying in bed.  When I am walking around or exercising I don't have these feelings.

So weird...

Good luck!

Hi there,

I've been having the same problems...first tiggles in my feet while sleeping, sore calf musles, and when in a room with more then five people I freak out, which I think its anxiety. sometimes i get light headed, i don't know what it is, but I'm just trying not to think about it!

Have any of you with these tingling feelings considered seeing a neurologist, these symptoms certanily cab be anxiety related, but they are classic neurological symptoms too, a simpl eeg can tell a lot.

I've had anxiety before and I got tingling and very mild numbness in my left arm and hand. I know how hellish anxiety can be. I'm with you on that. Another thing that could be causing your tingling is hyperventalation. You are probaly just so anxious all the time and you don't notice but your breathing becomes more rapid if you are anxious. It can last for days or hours. Try not to freak yourself out. I did that and it got me no where. I know it's hard, but just know that everything is okay. You're just going through a rough patch. Also, continue on with your life, don't let the anxiety consume you. Work, play, go out with friends and family or whatever it is that you like to do, while keeping some normalcy and balance in your life. It helps big time.

Hi angel... I apparently have restless leg syndrome and it feels like that. And it's not just my legs, its my hands, sometimes my whole body. It took me 20 yrs to figure out what it was. It definately feels similar to anxiety, especially when trying to sleep. Personally I take Tylenol if it's too bad, and I have to take sleeping pills at night to fall asleep. I can't say this is what you have, or what will work to help, but it's something to look into.

I had the same thing as well, with muscle twitching. Its off and on. As long as there isnt any atrophy or weakness, it more than likely anxiety. Ive suffered on and off since 2006. Its a normal symptom of severe anxiety. Just to ease your mind go see a neurologist. However, I pretty sure its anxiety. I had that and muscle twitches and still dealing with them. However, today I think my meds are kicking in and I feel happy so I havent hardly had any symptoms today, just a few twitches.

Just know this is classic signs of anxiety.

Hi Thank you for the reply :) I think I'm going nuts lol It seems to happen alot & yes I live a stressful life I work online & notice these vibrations when I am sitting down but they do happen when walking & standing not much when I lay down? I really don't want to go back to the dr they don't tell me much but suggest many tests just to see & it costs alot of money. I did receive a letter that my sugar was a little high no number though it just said to make an appt in 3 months to recheck so it wasn't too high. These vibrations don't hurt but they are scary any other help would be great!! mothermoon

hi all, i have been having panic attacks and related anxiety for about 20 odd years. being a stubborn wench i have neglected to get help regarding symptoms. for the last 10 months i have been in a constant cycle of panic and distress thinking my symptoms are degenerative and life threatening. i have been told i catastrophise.....lol, true enough. having said that, i have been having twitches under my skin, electric shock zaps, and more recently tingling/vibrations in the soles of my feet predominantly but also very occasionally in my pubic area, lift side of abdomen and fingers. i finally went to see my doctor (very brave) explained my symptoms and that i have panic attacks and anxiety all the time and she was more concerned about my anxiety than my symptoms!!! was not expecting that, she also said that the symptoms were all related to anxiety dissorder and that when i sort help and learnt to control the attacks i would soon find my symptoms to dissapear. this was only last week. i am now seeing a physcologist. slow learner!! anyway, it certainly seems like everyone's symptoms here are very similar and we have all been told similar things by our doctors. good luck all and lets take strength in the fact that we are not alone and perhaps should all relax and destress.....

I have been having tingling in various parts of my body for a little over a month now,  I went to a neurologist who did an emg and brain MRI which were both negative.  My PCP and neurologist both seem to think its anxiety also.  I am having  a hard time believing that this can be related.  I was also told by my therapist that I castastrophise and think the worst (like MS).  Even with doctors reassuring me nothing is wrong, I am still convinced something is. I know what I am feeling is real!

try garlic pills...i have had this issue for quite some time. I started to take garlic pills and it seemed to diminish. i ran out about a week ago, after taking them for a year and a half, not having to time to get the ones that i like. All of these symptoms have come back!. ..almost tenfold!

you can get odourless garlic and you can pretty much take as many as you like...side effects: i have not a cold, flu etc since i began!
