Too much weight gain!

by JayNegative, Sep 18, 2007 03:33AM
What is another alternative to Lexapro besides paxil and celexa, if they are even still out there. i use to be on paxil a few years ago, probably 5-6 to be exact, then i stopped taking it when i was 18. I started drinking and then my anxiety started getting worse and worse and i kept hitting the bottle harder and harder until about a year and a half ago my mom finally took me to the doctor and he put me on Lexapro. It seemed to help real well with the anxeity, but i just gained weight. it was fine at first because i lost alot of weight. Lowest being 175 so anything under 200 was fine. Then i just kept gaining weight i found out my girl was pregnant so i just thought me gaining more weight was just 'sympathy weight'. now i am up to 255. i have stretch marks that are pink and disgusting and i am just a fat wreck. I work really hard and dont eat as much as this significant amount of weight gain would think. so all in all ive been on Lexapro just a little over a year now and i am fed up trying to lose this weight. ive tried stopping but my anxiety makes me drink so i just stay on it. I am desperate for a solution and need to see a doctor but have no insurance. i am willing to pay for a visit but i would like some input as far as my options for other meds. Any help would be greatly appriciated. plus i cant afford to buy size 38 pants anymore. by the way im only 22

i feel your pain jay!!!   last week i wrote into this forum about zoloft and weight gain.  i have been on zoloft for 6 years now.  for a majority of the time i was only on 25mg.  just recently i had a major panic attack and could not get myself out of the panic slump.  my doctor now has me on 75mg.  i just had my third child (i am 30), so naturally i am trying to lose weight.  i am 141 lbs right now.  (only 5ft tall). People are always saying wow, you look great for just having a baby... little do they know that i was 112 lbs before i started taking zoloft.  i know that besides the pregnancies, zoloft plays a big part in the weight gain and the inablility to lose weight.  i guess i shouldn't say it can't lose it, it is just extremely hard.  i have been told that unfortunately all anti-depressant/panic meds cause weight problems for some people.  some say it makes you overeat and crave carbs and some say that it changes your metabolism.  whatever it is, it is a side effect i hate and i feel that it just adds to the anxiety i already have.  i exercise everday and try and watch how i eat.  i am losing weight very slowly, some weeks i actually see weight gain which really upsets me.  I guess we have to decide...do i want to live a life in panic or do i want to be thin?  all i can tell you is to try and start exercising and watch how you eat.  maybe even start walking every day...hopefully that will kickstart something.  good luck...
